Hearing God: A Natural Way of Living by Vishal Jetnarayan
|
Considering
the current crisis in the earth, it is now visible to all of humanity
that fleshly wisdom is but only a vapor and soon disappears. During
this time of fundamental change we need solutions that go beyond
normal, human rationale. The crisis' that occur is not a means for God
to completely obliterate His beautiful earth, but instead a means for
Him to establish His rule and reign globally. Therefore, we must align
ourselves to our Father's heart. There is only one way to obtain this
and it is none other then hearing the Voice of God and what He has to
say about everything. If the believer walks in a consistent
relationship with the Lord, then we have heavenly solutions. This can
be applied to every facet of life. We must remember that everything
that takes place in the earth must be viewed in light of God's
redemptive purpose.
King David in the scriptures was not just
a powerful king, but he was also a prophet and a man after God's own
heart. There were many challenges that he faced before he could
officially become king, however, these challenges shaped him to rule a
nation. After being anointed to be king, David spent many years living
in fields and caves before he would actually rule from a throne. As
one would read through the scriptures about him, we find a hunger and
sincerity in his heart about "hearing God." The example below gives us
a good perspective.
1 Sam 30:3-6, "So David and his men came to
the city, and there it was, burned with fire; ........6 Now David was
greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the
soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his
daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God." NKJV
While
David and his men are away, the Amalakites invade Ziklag, the land
given to David by the Philistines. Not only did the Amalakites burn up
the land, but they kidnapped the children and women that belonged to
David and his men and they stole all of their belongings. After David
and his men return, they found their homes burned and their loved ones
gone. The scripture states that David was greatly distressed. Assessing
our present condition of the economy can cause us to become distressed
especially without foresight of what is to come. Inflation rose to
5.6% in July, the highest it has been since 1991. Unemployment took a
turn for the worst at 6.5% during the month of October 2008 and the year
before it was at 4.8%. Presently, the unemployment rate is at 6.7%.
For some, your money might have been invested in the stock market and
you watched it decrease. Perhaps you had investments in banks which
defaulted. There's a high probability that you might be drowning in
bills and feeling overwhelmed. This could be a result of a lack of
stewardship and knowledge regarding finances. All of the above
mentioned problems can absolutely create "distress." David strengthened himself with trust in his God (1 Sam 30:6-AMP).
Whenever
distress comes upon us it seeks to disengage our strength and courage.
If we embrace distress then we allow ungodly fear to enter into our
minds. When this happens, we start to make decisions based from our
own emotions, rather than the promises of our heavenly Father. David's
predicament was very serious as it involved lives and resources that
belonged to his fellow country men. His own men were getting ready to
stone him because they were thinking out of their emotions of sadness
and grief. Thinking out of haste can cause harm. However, in the
midst of his present circumstance he had to build his courage and fully
trust in God. His present circumstance could not dictate the outcome
of the promises of God. Hearing God is vital and must become a daily part of our lives.
1
Sam 30:8, "Then David asked the Lord, "Should I chase after this band
of raiders? Will I catch them?" And the Lord told him, "Yes, go after
them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!" NLT
David
was already a powerful man and his name spread all across the land to
the point of where people sang - "Saul has slain his thousands, and
David his ten thousands." He took on a giant and conquered him. In
essence, the Amalakites could not compare to Goliath. However, David
did not use his past victories to determine what to do, but he
immediately communicated with the Father. He could have easily asked
the priest, Abiathar, for his wisdom but did not. He asked the Lord
questions pertaining to his circumstance and he definitely got a
response from Him.
In our present circumstance, it is easy for
us to enquire of the voices around us and gain human wisdom. It's also
simple for us to utilize systems that are around us which will only
give us a temporary fix such as a bailout. But, mature sons and
daughters realize that the solution to our present circumstance is
hearing Pappa.
- He gives wisdom that money cannot buy
- He directs our steps into the right paths
- He gives us creativity which is not yet released in the earth
- He gives us strategies that the enemy cannot comprehend
- He tell us His secrets
After
David heard from the Lord, he followed through with obedience and
confidence knowing that the word of the Lord will not return void. He
defeated the Amalakites and recovered all of the people kidnapped as
well as all of their belongings, including all the spoil. Not only
should we just hear what Pappa says, but we must become obedient to do
what He says. Take time to develop a wholesome relationship with the
Father as He loves to communicate with us. We must sincerely desire
"heavenly solutions."

Are You Making Yourself Sick? by Karen Strite

Stressed out? Just reading the headlines can cause anxiety - "Wall Street Capping One of It's Worst Years Ever", "Holiday Sales Seen Worst in 38 Years", "Consumer Confidence Hits All-time Low in December", "Home Prices Tumble Record 18%". The financial crisis continually evolves, expands, and dominates the news coverage. Add to that the pressures of daily life - deadlines at work, family issues, too much traffic, job insecurity, a depleting bank account and hectic schedules. Accumulated stress is like snow piling on a branch. What is one snowflake? But ultimately if there are too many snowflakes the branch breaks.
The stress response is a normal, sometimes life-saving, physiological change in your body, designed to energize you to cope with perceived threats. It is often referred to as the flight-or-fight response. This response is a comprehensive physical, mental, and emotional reaction to any internal or external event that we perceive to require immediate action. When the stress response goes off inside you and you use that energy to accomplish what you want, we call it "eustress". When the stress response remains active for a long period of time and the energy is not used, we call it "distress". It is estimated that more than 85% of the illnesses for which people seek medical treatment are related to distress.
Stress can make you sick. There is a clear connection between health and our emotions. A long term activation of your stress response reaction can disrupt almost all of your health. When left unchecked, stress can lead to health problems, including:
Insomnia, ulcers, back pain, colitis, increased blood pressure and blood lipid levels, heart disease, skin conditions, a lowering of the body's immune system
Clearly it is to our advantage to learn how to best manage and use stress response skills. All stress is not bad. Stress only becomes a problem when the stress response goes off when it's not needed, when it stays on longer than what is useful, or when it can't be turned off. You can use stress to motivate and empower you to accomplish tasks, sharpen thinking and maintain high levels of energy. The key is to learn to control and manage stress to maximize performance while avoiding burnout. Here are some tips you can use to manage stress effectively and creatively.
- View changes and problems as challenges, not as losses or threats. It's all in your perspective, change is constant, it is the price we pay for being alive. Search for the opportunities, not the obstacles. Be flexible and willing to change.
- Identify the things you can control and focus your energy and attention on them. Avoid spending time, energy, worry attending to things which you have no influence or control. Entrust those things to God through prayer.
- Take excellent care of yourself. Physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Maintaining a balance in all aspects of your life.
- Refuse to get derailed by those who are pessimistic, resistant, or discontent. Surround yourself with people who are creative, optimistic, passionate, and encouraging.
- Give yourself some down time. This will free your mind to experiment with a fresh approach and obtain new ideas and solutions.
- Identify negative coping mechanisms. Such as, alcohol, tobacco, denial, drugs, overeating, withdrawal, fault-finding, worrying, tantrums, passivity, indulging etc.
- Get Organized. Take charge, don't let things pile up. Prioritize, delegate, be efficient.
- Exercise. Pursue physical fitness; this is the best way to relieve stress. Also practice breathing and stretching exercises throughout your day. Get outdoors when possible.
- Take time for God. "In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." (Phil 4:6)
"I have had a long, long, life full of troubles, but there is one curious fact about them, nine-tenths of them never happened." - Andrew Carnegie
