Economic Outlook by Eugene Strite
|
There are a good number of people who seem to be surprised by what has occurred in the markets throughout this year. Not only has it effected people in our own country but economies around the globe are under pressure as a result. Many people have lost a considerable amount of money and are wondering if the bottom of the market is anywhere in site. The market I believe will go sideways for a while, rising and falling based on news reports or events of the day, resulting in highs one day and lows the next. I do believe that the markets will rebound soon but I think that there will be at least one more serious drop in the market sometime late March or in April, 2009. After that we should start seeing the market start to gain momentum and I believe that there will be lots of money to be made. In the interim, the fear and greed factor that is a major part of our economic system is being dismantled and exposed.
Fear or a lack of cash will keep many from taking advantage of some great buying opportunity. I understand that fear can seize a person who is not versed in the Word of God, particularly when they see their retirement or savings dwindle. An important part of future investing will depend on your ability to understand financial statements or get a broker that understands or has a consistent method of investing and not a broker who just invests in what his superiors or firm recommends. Many brokers are lazy and do not do the research that's necessary to make sound investments. For example, one should not invest unless you know something about the CEO or CFO of a company. As far as investing there are some real opportunities for stocks that are undervalued and will become profitable.
To use a common phrase, "Cash will be king". Be sure to keep liquid cash for yourself. If you need extra money to live on ask God for another wealth stream. Some people are making the mistake of taking money out of their retirement. That will prove to be very costly in time. Consider penalties, taxes and the age of retirement. Also, some are selling their assets for cash this can be a mistake. However, if they are just lying around and taking up space then we should get cash for what we don't use and inves t in hard assets.
We have to realize that at some point we need things of value for bargaining power, because to compensate for the bailout that is taking place, our government keeps printing more money which has no backing, therefore, causing our dollar to lose value.
As children of God we must overcome lack in our lives in two ways. The first way would be to look for other streams of income. To many times we keep doing the same thing but expecting a different result, which is insanity. In Genesis two, there were four streams that went through the garden providing life and abundance. Abundance is a choice and we have to realize that everything that you have, don't have, and ever will have in life is all because of the choices you make.
Every choice has consequences, both benefits and cost. You are never without the ability to choose in life. So when one stream dries up there are other streams available because God will never abandon his people.
The second way to overcome lack in our lives is by giving. We give what we can't afford in order to receive what we can't afford. Think about this quote by Oral Roberts, "Money may leave your hands but never leaves your life." You have to be able to give what you can't afford to get what you can't afford.
If you have not been faithful in sowing seed, you can not expect much of a harvest. Seeds that we sow are of giving, tithes, offerings and taking care of the poor. There are also seeds of investing such as the stock market, CD's, and real estate. The bible says that God blesses seed sown. The area of giving and sowing seed involves risk. If we do a study of great men and women of God, one would find that it took more than prayer, it also took a risk. In order for great success, there is al ways risk involved. Some examples include David taking on Goliath, Gideon fighting a battle with only 300 men, and Rahab protecting the spies. Without taking a risk you are not heard of or remembered.
In Luke 9:12-17, the disciples looked at what was available then looked at the crowd and saw lack. They concluded that it was late and time to send the people home. Notice that the disciples were speaking lack while Jesus was preparing to feed the people. Never look at what you have to determine what to do but decide what to do and start with what you have. It's in giving that you enlarge your capacity to receive. Lack is an enemy! Say no to lack as you would to any other temptation. Display it in your attitude, words and actions.
In this time of financial uncertainty lets work out of an opposite spirit and put our faith into action believing that we serve an abundant God. He is ready at all times to show us area's of blessings and provision that we have not yet seen.

Everyday Thought: Fear & Greed by Mark Durniak
|
We are living in a time like
no other. Uncertainty is at an all time high. Economies are on the
brink of collapse. The best and brightest minds humanity has to offer
are perplexed and seemingly unable to bring resolution to current
crisis. It
is at times like these when fear and greed are rampant. These sisters
will cause people to make hasty and unwise decisions. It is
desperation that will either turn people to God or make them do things
they would otherwise never do. Remember this simple test: if you
wouldn't do it when all is going well, you probably shouldn't do it
when its not. And the contrary is true as well. Our integrity is
tested when circumstances suddenly change. When
things get tight, fear and greed make us suspicious of others. People
who normally would be our trusted friends, in crisis, can become
victims of our blame or fodder for mistrust. Again, the opposite can
be true as well. The temptation to relieve the pressure makes us
susceptible to swindlers and opportunists. We'll mistakenly trust a
smooth presentation promising a great reward from someone we don't even
know. With
all of this said, this is a time of tremendous opportunity. Never
before have people not trapped by fear or greed had such fertile soil
for seed sowing. Businesses and properties are being sold for pennies
on the dollar if not given away because of panic. Gifted and
experienced people are ready to work for much less than just a year ago
to enjoy a little security. Our ability to remain generous in such
uncertainty will be the tool for kingdom advancement in the coming
year. What a time to be alive! In
Genesis 9:2 fear is first mentioned. God promised Noah that the fear
of him would be upon all of his surroundings. In other words, fear was
not meant to be upon man, but because of him. Sin has perverted God's
order and now man has become afraid of his circumstances. Those no
longer under the law of sin can enjoy the freedom of seeing clearly in
the midst of great uncertainty. These are the ones who will not only
come out ahead but will be responsible for changing the current
conditions under which we live. Strive
to be free from fear and greed. Remember to spend more time listening
to the One who sits in heaven than those who reside on earth. His
perspective will override your reaction to the state of things and turn
you into an agent of positive change. Let what He shows you bring hope
and preparation to many. The world is in dire need of faith.
