Aloha Divers!
It's almost time for our first ever Underwater Olympics and we hope you're
as excited as we are! This email has all the details, so read on and
send us an email if you have any questions!
WHEN:
This Saturday, 8:AM
The briefing will be on the beach at 8:00, so get to the site early to get
parking and gear up.
WHERE: Keawakapu Beach, where South Kihei Road ends
WHAT ELSE: BRING YOUR OWN SPOON - regulation size teaspoon or
tablespoon!
The shop will be closed from 7:30AM - 10:30AM so that we can staff
the event. If you need equipment for the event, it'll be best to come in
the night before.
Here's what to expect:
This is a timed event, and the three buddy teams with the best times
will be named as the winners (and rewarded accordingly)! The course will
start at water's edge, so you will probably want to set your gear up, wear it
down to the beach, and then take it off until it is your turn to do the course
(we will bring tarps so you don't have to put your equipment in the sand).
We plan on sending groups of four into the water at three minute
intervals, so the first 8 divers to check in should have gear on and be ready to
go at 8:00. When we check you in, we will give you your "group number" so
you have an idea of when you will be going in and can gear up accordingly.
As you enter the water, the clock starts. You will head out to the
designated flag where you will drop down and begin the course. The course
is set up as a large rectangle, starting in about 15 feet of water - you just
have to follow it and follow the instructions at the beginning of each
section. The events, in the order you will come upon them, are as
follows:
- Spoon Event
- Hula Hoops
- Torpedo Toss
- PVC Puzzle
- Basketball
- Three-legged Slalom
- No Fin Sprint
At the end of the No Fin Sprint, you must safely ascend and head back to
the starting point to get your ending time!
Winners will be announced on the beach right around 10:AM. For those
of you who have attended our events before, you know the drill: Free event
t-shirts will be given out, group photo taken, prizes announced!
