Holiday Thanks
A big mahalo to everybody who donated food to the Maui Food Bank (176 lbs in total!) or money to the Maui Reef Fund ($300) in December. This will make a huge impact in our underwater and above water community!

Aloha!
Once again, it's time for the Maui Dreams Dive Co. newsletter!
Yes, January 1st was our 10 year anniversary! We are honored to still
be seeing some of the same divers we've known since the start - THANK YOU!
2009 will bring many new innovations in our store, as well as some surprise
anniversary events and more, so stay tuned!
Mahalo nui loa,
Your friends at

Drysuit Diving in Maui!
Yes, we said drysuit diving in Maui! Some of the best diving on earth
is in the colder climates, and we want you to be able to dive there -
comfortably! We also recognize that a large percentage of our annual
visiting divers come from those climates.
Well, we think you'll agree that
Maui would be a very comfortable place to get familiar with drysuits and earn
the specialty certification while you're at it. We are using the Whites
Fusion Drysuit to train in. This flexible suit is easy to get in and out of on your own (and obviously
makes for funny photo ops) and we have them in stock for sale as
well. The drysuit course is accomplished over two
mornings and the course cost of $225 plus tax is all-inclusive. Sign up now! Mention the newsletter at the time of booking and get $25 off.

January is Nitrox Month at MDDC!
As many of you know, it is easier
than ever to accomplish this certification and having it really enhances your
diving experience, especially if you're doing multiple dives or wanting to stay
down longer (air supply permitting). As with all of our courses,
self-study prior to the class is a requirement, and this makes your actual
classroom time minimal! Mention the newsletter during the month of
January, and get $15 off any Nitrox course booked in January and completed by
February 15th, 2009. Email us to sign up!

February Events
February is Boat Dive month and what better time of year to add
this certification to your collection than during the heart of whale
season! Join us aboard the Maui Diamond II for whale watching and diving
while also earning your Boat Diver Specialty Certification! Mention the
newsletter when booking this specialty and get it for $199, which is $50 off our
regular rate! If you've just completed your Nitrox course, we will bring
Nitrox for you to use for just $20 more. This offer is good for courses
booked between Jan 15 - Feb 15 and completed by March 15, 2009. E-mail us to sign up!
February 14 Join us on "The Love Boat" for our second annual
Valentine's Day Party! There is no extra charge, but participants do need
to tell us "their song" if bringing along a sweetie, and have to be in the mood
for love if they're arriving single! Sign up now! February 18 - Rescue Review $75
Ready for some serious fun!?! Are your rescue skills a bit rusty?
Do you have wild dreams about seeing Paul carry a diver out of the water (or
maybe about carrying him out)!?! Maui Dreams is offering all of you Rescue
Divers, Divemasters, and Instructors the perfect opportunity to refresh your
ability to be an effective Rescue Diver in the unlikely event your dive buddy
needs assistance.
Open Water and Advanced Open Water Divers are also welcome to
participate in the first several scenarios for only $50. Everyone is invited to
observe the fun. If you are planning to take the Rescue Diver Course in the
future, or just curious about what all the fuss is about, come on out and join
the festivities! We will be happy to answer your questions and fill you
in on what you can do to become a PADI Rescue Diver. Sign up now!

Sunset Pau Hana Parties
Yes, you are still invited! Though we held these weekly for just over
two months, this Friday's will be our last for a while. After that, we
will hold them regularly on the first Friday of each month, so please
join us at Keawakapu Beach (where South Kihei Road ends) this Friday at 5:PM and
then again on February 2, 2009. Bring your beach chair and
let's talk story during the sunset hour. Join our page on Facebook to be kept up to date on fun events like
this!

Funny Photo Contest
For the first time ever, Rachel got skunked on a Manta dive. However,
she wasn't going to let that get in the way of having some fun, so she posed as
though she was presenting an oncoming manta ray (her slate says "insert Manta
here"). So, the photo contest is for you to insert a manta into this
photo and submit it by February 1st. We'll put submissions in our next
newsletter and let everyone vote for their favorite. The winner will get a
free trip aboard the Maui Diamond II. Have fun. The full-size image can be downloaded here. Send photo
submissions to dive@mauidreamsdiveco.com |
Gyre Trouble
New Non-profit tackles Garbage Goliath with Music and Art
The North Pacific Gyre is a swirl of wind and sea currents that pulls most
of the North Pacific Ocean into a vortex of calm waters and collects all the
floating debris in the process. The gyre is in an area north of Hawaii and
is roughly twice the size of Texas! The Environmental Cleanup Coalition is
a new nonprofit that hopes to start the clean-up on this massive whirlpool of
plastic and other garbage and they're holding a benefit concert at the end of
January to get things started! To purchase tickets or find out more about
how to support this cause, call 808-563-9963. For more details, click here.
Want to go for free? Send us an e-mail using the word gyre in a sentence
and we'll enter you to win a pair of free tickets to the January 31st concert at
the Iao Theater. |
