Once again it's time for you to do the craziest thing---park your car in the church lot, adorn it with
decorations, and then hand out candy left and right to little princesses, cowboys, goblins and wizards!
Each year we host Trunk-or-Treat for our community and friends. We hope not just our children will
come, but those in the neighborhood-plus your own kids, grandkids, neighbors, friends and family. And
grown-ups, too, of course!
Hotdogs, chips & drinks will be served for $2 per person. No reservation required! Just show up!
Mark your calendar for the Sunday before Halloween!

Pastor's Wednesday Morning Bible Study
September 12-November 14, 2012
@ 10:30 AM in the Conference Room
Beginning on Wednesday, September 12, from 10:30-11:30 AM, in the Conference Room. I once again will offer a Fall Bible Study. This year we will study each upcoming Sunday's four lectionary texts: Old Testament, Psalm, Epistle, and Gospel. There will be study sheets distributed in advance containing each of the scriptures.
I am excited about this because the group's insights will help me prepare for the upcoming Sunday's sermon based on these same texts.

The text will be Mahaffey's work of non-fiction, Atomic Awakening: A New Look at the History and Future of Nuclear Power, available from Amazon.com and fine bookstores everywhere, in hardback, paperback, Kindle, e-book, used, or in Chinese. Copies will be for sale at the door, and admission is free. Come for the enlightenment. |
Artist in the Narthex
As a continued celebration of our 60th Anniversary over the next twelve months, we will be privileged to see the work of twelve visual artists from our congregation. We will have works by a wood turner, a painter, a quilter, a photographer, a weaver---all on a Sunday morning, before and after worship, in the Narthex. Look for the notices in the Pinnacle and the eNotes, and celebrate the visual arts at Northside Drive Baptist Church. |
Susan Harlan
Artist in the Narthex
October 14, 2012
Susan Harlan will exhibit her fiber art, woven and knitted pieces, on Sunday, October 14, in the Narthex, before and after our worship service. Susan graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Visual Arts degree and a major in fabric design, with an emphasis in weaving. However, her life path led in the direction of the family business, the Vickery Hardware Store in Smyrna, which is an iconic store for those of us who love old fashioned hardware stores.
Susan returned to her loom after some times of deep despair - loss of her husband in 2003 and fighting her own battle against cancer in 1996 and again in 2010. She recalled the joy of creating with her hands at the loom and found her way back to a creative life. In her own words: I found that although I could not remember everything I had learned, my hands had muscle memory, and the rhythm and motion of the loom became a balm to my soul.
And so she weaves: the woven strip in the middle of our new 60th Anniversary banner was woven by Susan; lucky friends might receive a scarf or dish towel; on a floor loom at the Spruill Center, she is currently weaving a fine handkerchief for her son; and you will see a work in progress, a scarf, on her table loom.
Susan has also initiated a Prayer Shawl Ministry for NDBC. This group meets once a month (third Wednesday night of each month) to knit and/or crochet, producing prayers shawls that are distributed to those who are ill or in crisis.
We welcome Susan to the Narthex and invite you to stop by and see her fiber art work. |

 NDBC Preschool's
4th Annual Silent Auction
Our 4th Annual Silent Auction will take place the week of November 5-9. Our goal this year is to raise $15,000, which will help us purchase new technology equipment and repair and upgrade some of the existing computers. The Auction is our main fundraiser during the year which enables us to offer some enrichment opportunities that tuition alone cannot cover. During the past couple of years, auction proceeds have allowed us to create a new library, purchase new furniture, display boards, and light tables, and offer Mandarin to all our 3, 4, and 5 year olds.
Here is how you can help:
-- Make a donation of an item or a service you provide, to be auctioned. We have a great list of suggestions available in the Preschool.
-- You can bid, bid, and bid! All items can be previewed on line at ndbcpreschool.org, or in person during the week of November 5. Winners will be announced on Friday, November 9, at 1:30 PM.
-- Tell others about our auction and invite them to bid along. Many cash and carry items will be available too.
The mission of the Preschool is to lay a foundation for lifelong learning in the loving and safe environment that Northside Drive Baptist Church offers. With your help we can achieve this and so much more. |
