Pastor's Wednesday Morning Bible Study
September 12-November 14, 2012
@ 10:30 AM in the Conference Room
Beginning on Wednesday, September 12, from 10:30-11:30 AM, in the Conference Room. I once again will offer a Fall Bible Study. This year we will study each upcoming Sunday's four lectionary texts: Old Testament, Psalm, Epistle, and Gospel. There will be study sheets distributed in advance containing each of the scriptures.
I am excited about this because the group's insights will help me prepare for the upcoming Sunday's sermon based on these same texts.

Music @ NDBC
The Music Ministry, through careful preparation and meaningful execution, seeks to nurture the congregation as we participate in the song of the Church. The song which we are called to offer comes from our heart and plays to the heart of God.
Northside Drive is alive with the sound of music. Music forms an integral part of all our worship experiences, and many of our special events are built around music.
OPPORTUNITIES...
The Sanctuary Choir
The Sanctuary Choir, rehearsing weekly on Wednesday evenings and singing weekly in Sunday morning worship, is Northside Drive's primary choral group. This is a volunteer group of male and female singers who love making a contribution through music.
Rehearsals will be held on Wednesdays at 7:30 PM in the Undercroft Choir Room, beginning September 5.
Northside Drive Ringers
Northside Drive Ringers is one of Northside Drive's adult handbell ensembles, ringing three octaves of Schulmerich handbells. This group rehearses weekly and rings in Sunday morning worship on a monthly basis. All are invited to join, but basic music reading skills are necessary.
Northside Drive Ringers rehearsals will be held on Sundays at 5:30 PM in the balcony classroom, beginning September 9.
Beginning Handbell Ensemble
The beginning adult handbell ensemble is offered for adults who have never rung a handbell but would like to learn how. The group will meet on Sunday evenings at 6:30PM, beginning September 16.
(For more information opportunities in music, please contact the our music director, Paul Fletcher a paul@northsidedrive.org.)
NDBC Children's Choir
The Northside Kids Children's Choir is for children ages 3 years-5th grade. Nicole Harbin and Amanda Gregg meet with the children in the Chapel on Sunday mornings beginning September 9. We hope that the children will come ready to sing and learn every Sunday immediately following Church School with Mr. JB. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Nicole Harbin at nicoleharbin@yahoo.com or 770-844-5797. |

This will be study about us and God trying to live together this thing called faith. To prime the pump of conversation, we will make use of Bill Moyer's Genesis: A Living Conversation as commentary material. The book can be purchased inexpensively on Amazon.

A Look at Hymnody
Led by Mary Kate Christian
Wednesdays, September 12-October 3
@ 7 PM in the Parlor
Given the richness of tradition at Northside Drive, Intern Mary Kate Christian would like to take an in-depth look at hymns and how they shape our theology. She hopes to explore both the texts and music of hymns found in the Northside Drive hymnal and the supplement provided to look at the theology behind the writers' words, the biblical texts supporting the hymns, and how the music affects the words and our emotions while hearing and singing the songs. She will offer the opportunity for members to suggest hymns for the following week's study so that the hymns are hymns that are enjoyed by and familiar to a majority of participants. |

2012 Habitat for Humanity Build
September 29, October 6 & 13,
& November 3 & 10
For more than 20 years Northside Drive has been building homes for and with families in Atlanta Habitat for Humanity's home ownership program. Volunteers from our church have installed windows, painted siding and planted trees alongside the homeowners of the Habitat homes. Each homeowner has their own unique story of what the new Habitat home means to them, but a common theme runs through every story-building a strong and stable future for a family.
This year we start another house, for another family---and WE NEED YOUR HELP. Please sign up to volunteer for one of the build dates below. You don't have to have experience, skill or even coordination---just a willingness to help. Everything else they will teach you!
For more information on how to sign up, please contact Geneva Hall-Shelton at geneva.hall-shetlon@atlantahabitat.org, or Beth Laxton at laxton2125@charter.net. |
