shawlA Knitting Ministry

Several members of our church have been meeting once a month for the last several months to knit prayer shawls. The knitting group will continue to meet on the third Wednesday of each month during the summer. The summer months will be spent knitting children's hats for the Craddock Center. The Craddock Center is a non-profit organization located in Cherry Log, GA. The founder of the Craddock Center is Dr. Fred Craddock, a nationally recognized theologian and preacher who has been a long-time friend of our church. The mission of the Craddock Center is to enrich the lives of the people of Southern Appalachia, especially children, through programs of education, cultural enhancement, and service.

One of the goals of the Craddock Center is to meet the physical needs of the poor families that it serves in Appalachia. As one small way of fulfilling this goal, the Craddock Center needs approximately 800 knitted hats to keep small Appalachian children warm during the cold winter months. Our church will be helping the Craddock Center meet this need. The knitting group welcomes all who are interested in participating in this ministry, even those who are unable to attend the monthly meetings of the group. If you would like to make some knitted hats for the Craddock Center, please contact Susan Harlan or Ann Grant. They will be happy to provide you with information (including patterns for the hats) regarding how you can participate in this ministry.

Agape Center Extreme Room Make Over

Among its many programs in the Bolton Road and Marietta Road area, Agape Community Center serves children from low income households offering tutorials, mentoring and athletic focused summer camps for boys and girls. This spring Agape sponsored opportunities to completely re-do children's bedrooms for some of the client families. Northside Drive provided teams that painted and re-decorated the bedrooms for two families. With eager participation from the children, volunteers painted, assembled study desks, hung window treatments and added new linens to the beautiful bunk beds. It was an exciting and happy time for families and volunteers alike as rooms and lives were transformed.

"Caring for God's Creation"

The earth is the Lord's,

and everything in it, the world,

and all who live in it.

~ Psalm 24:1

The TTWL Mission Team needs your help! Our theme this summer focuses on caring for all creation-natural resources, animal life and people-so our stories and activities will incorporate the concept of preserving and reusing. We need your help in collecting items to be used for crafts.

There is a box in the Narthex for the following items:

  •  two liter soft drink bottles with or without lids
  •  pie tins
  •  magazines with pictures of plants or animals
  •  paper towel tubes
  •  small sea shells to border picture frames
  •  CD jewel cases

If you want to volunteer to help for one or more days during the week, please contact Rhonda Harris or Susan Harlan.
