Summer Church School 2012

A Look at Christian Spiritual Disciplines

Sundays, June 3-September 2, 2012

       The summer is coming and with it combined Summer School classes! This year, Northside Drive will offer a combined Church School class from 9:30-10:45 AM exploring the six spiritual disciplines:

*  Contemplation

*  Fasting

*  Meditation on Scripture

*  Prayer

*  Sabbath

*  Solitude

       This series will have six facilitators who will present a two-week study of each topic where each section will explore the definition, origin, past and emerging practices used for each discipline. Summer in the Chapel

June 10-September 2, 2012

Energy, Intimacy, and Hymnody.

Energy: We are lowering our utility expenses by moving into the chapel this summer. This expression of stewardship is environmentally responsible. Intimacy: The chapel is the church's original sanctuary built in 1954; for many members, it is coming home. Also, the space encourages a close, friendly atmosphere. Hymnody: The choir is taking a summer sabbatical (so as to return rested in the fall) so we will be singing more familiar hymnody from our new hymnal, the  Worshiping Church.

"Caring for God's Creation"

The earth is the Lord's,

and everything in it, the world,

and all who live in it.

~ Psalm 24:1

The TTWL Mission Team needs your help! Our theme this summer focuses on caring for all creation-natural resources, animal life and people-so our stories and activities will incorporate the concept of preserving and reusing. We need your help in collecting items to be used for crafts.

There is a box in the Narthex for the following items:

  •  two liter soft drink bottles with or without lids
  •  pie tins
  •  magazines with pictures of plants or animals
  •  paper towel tubes
  •  small sea shells to border picture frames
  •  CD jewel cases

If you want to volunteer to help for one or more days during the week, please contact Rhonda Harris or Susan Harlan.

Calling All Elves!

     The Worship and Music Ministry Team is looking for a couple of elves to help keep our pew racks stocked with the various items, such as prayer request cards, etc.

     This would mean about once a month checking the racks for necessary items and removing old orders of worship, etc. A great way to visit with your friends followed by lunch!?

     Please let Renee or me know if you are able to help with this important task.

     Blessings,

Sheila Nicol
