A Letter of Blessing
to
Northside Drive Baptist Church
from
Paul A. Richardson, D.M.A., F.H.S.
Professor of Music, Samford University
Dear Friends,
Congratulations on the dedication of The Worshiping Church. Having a long acquaintance with folk at Northside Drive and having been involved in the compilation of this worship resource, I commend you to one another and hope that you will enjoy an enduring, nurturing, and affectionate relationship.
Congregation and hymnal have much to offer one another:
- You are both thoughtful in faith and expression.
- You will find yourselves well matched in worship and ministry.
- You are both ambitious in learning and serving.
- You will each challenge the other as you share insights and experiences.
I encourage you to explore this book, not only as a common resource for corporate worship but also as a companion to Bible study, an anthology of the church's theological and musical inheritance, and a guide to personal devotion. As you spend time with this hymnal in praise, prayer, contemplation, and activity, you will discover that you have a multi-faceted resource.
One of the occasions on which I had the opportunity to visit Northside Drive was when Donald Hustad preached and taught a few years ago. Dr. Hustad has been my teacher, mentor, and friend across forty years. The Worshiping Church was wisely guided by the breadth of his knowledge and experience and the rich web of his personal and professional relationships. In the variety of this book you will see traces of the organist who studied with Jean Langlais and played for Billy Graham, the song leader of prayer meetings and the foremost Baptist liturgical scholar of his generation. Don will be gratified that you are using this resource in the formation and proclamation of your faith. I look forward to visiting with you again and to becoming with you a part of the worshiping church.
Grace and peace,
Paul A. Richardson, D.M.A., F.H.S.

A Word About Bad Weather
and Church Services
As a rule of thumb, we will not cancel Church School or worship services on Sunday morning except under the most extreme weather conditions. Members are urged to use their own good judgment as to whether they should attempt to make the trip. Should inclement winter weather cause the cancellation of a service, here is the plan:
1) The ministers and the moderator will consult and then make the decision.
2) An email notice will be sent to all congregants for whom the church has email addresses.
3) The moderator will notify the deacon chair.
4) The deacons and other caregivers will attempt to phone congregants who do not have email or who might need special notification.
5) The minister will notify the local television stations. |
