Organ Restoration

Dear Friend of Northside Drive,

Worship has always been at the center of everything done at Northside Drive Baptist Church, and music has always been a major element in our worship. As you look at the front of our Sanctuary, the cross is the focus, but the pipes of our wonderful organ provide a strong framework for the cross. While many outstanding musicians have contributed to our music ministry as organists, directors and vocalists, our organ has been a constant and central part in our worship since 1974. Our organ, which has served us so well for almost 40 years, now needs our help.

For more information about how you can help, please visit the NDBC website where you will find a letter from the Organ Restoration Committee and a virtual pledging form: http://www.northsidedrive.org/giving.asp.

Callaway Cup Final

 Callaway Cup

The 12th playing of the Callaway Cup on September 11, resulted in first time winner Melissa Bryson trouncing her male competition with a Net 64. Like the Dalai Lama, she's a big hitter, long. Congratulations to our first female winner of the highly coveted Callaway Cup. Also among the field were Jr. division winner Liam Collins (who was second overall, gross and net), Sr. division winner Barney Moore, Closest to the Pin Jonathan Schroeder, Long Driver Jordan Clark, and Low Gross Hal Meeks. Gordon Davis was again a winner of a very large bag of experienced golf balls. It was a beautiful day for golf and fellowship. Remembered fondly were Raymund Callaway, for whom the trophy was named, and Dan Dalke, the first winner of the Callaway Cup.

Prayer Shawl Minsitry

Shawls ... made for centuries universal and embracing,

symbolic of an inclusive, unconditionally loving, God.

They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace,

mother, hug, shelter and beautify.

Those who have received these shawls have been

uplifted and affirmed, as if given wings to

fly above their troubles...

~ Written in 1998 by: Janet Bristow

Come join us on Wednesday, October 19, at 7 PM, in the church Parlor to knit or crochet a prayer shawl. If you are not sure how, no problem, there will be plenty of people to help you get started. This group is open to anyone who would like to join! For more information call Susan Harlan at 770-377-3869.

The Andrew P. Stewart Center

Needs After-School Tutors through September 19.

School's back in session and The Andrew P. Stewart Center's after-school tutoring program has begun! The Mission Year volunteer missionaries who will be doing the majority of the tutoring, however, do not arrive until September 19. This leaves the Center understaffed for 4 weeks. The Executive Director, Clayton Davis, and Program Director, Megan Warley, have asked the members of the Board for help in finding tutors to bridge this gap.

It would be great if NDBC could be able to offer hands-on support for the important work of The Stewart Center, as well as our financial support. I know that giving of our time can sometimes be more difficult than writing a check, but I also know that personal participation reaps huge personal rewards, one being that your heart will swell from the experience. The tutoring program is Monday through Friday, begins at 2:30 PM and concludes at 6 PM. If you can serve please send me an email stating your date(s) preference as soon as possible to Kathy.Harris@equifax.com

Third-Annual NDBC Seminarian Party

Friday, September 23, beginning at 7 PM

James and Liz have graciously agreed to host our third-annual seminarian party! If you are a seminarian, come meet the pastor of Northside Drive and learn a little about the church. But more than anything else: come have some fun, eat a lot, and meet some good people! That's what this event is really about!

Contact Mike Gregg (mike@northsidedrive.org) or Zach Bay (zach@northsidedrive.org) for more information.

Church School

Adult Church School classes provide different learning opportunities for all ages of adults to strengthen their Christian pilgrimage. We offer a variety of classes, some age-oriented, some topic-oriented, with emphasis on Bible study, seminars and lively discussion. We encourage everyone to visit several different classes to find the right "fit" and to participate in any class offered that is of interest. Special seminars and classes are offered several times a year as well. There is a place for everyone to learn and grow in their relationship to God in Christ. Come join us!

Church School begins each Sunday at 9:30 AM.

Missions Opportunity

BCM

Buckhead Christian Ministries

Volunteer Opportunity

Jesus sent his disciples out into the world to spread the kingdom of God. The people here at NDBC have been following that example for 59 years through the missions of the church. One such mission Northside has chosen to work with is Buckhead Christian Ministries.

They explain on their website, http://buckheadchristianministry.org/, They are a faith based organization that provides emergency assistance to individuals and families of all backgrounds and faiths, treating everyone with dignity and compassion. They help with more than a handout but with a hand up! In order for them to provide these services they offer a dual mission of a great place to volunteer as our own Jane Fitzgerald can testify.

Jane has, for several years, given of her time to BCM's food pantry. She has stocked shelves and bagged groceries for those who come in for assistance. Upon hearing of her volunteerism, I was inspired and joined myself. I chose to be at the thrift store, http://buckheadchristianministry.org/thriftique.html, where there are great buys for all. Of course, Jane said she was not the first Northside Driver to be at BCM; Aline Cofield had led the way.

When Jesus sent out his disciples he told them if they met opposition to knock off the dirt and move on. When you volunteer at BCM you will not find any kind of opposition, only a great experience. So if you are looking for a place to volunteer, take a look at BCM and see if something excites you!
