Triple E: Baptimergent
September 14, at 10:45 AM
in the Fellowship Hall.
The title of the book and the postmodern movement, Baptimergent, is a combination of the words Emergent and Baptist. Emergent Baptists are those who believe there is more to God, Jesus, and God's kingdom than current Christian denominations can define. Rev. Mike Gregg describes the importance of being Baptist in a postmodern world. He contends that as worshippers become more postmodern, they might actually become more Baptist. |
Book Club Review Rescheduled
NDBC BOOK CLUB'S book review of An Altar in the World: A Geography of Faith by Barbara Brown Taylor was moved from Wednesday, September 8, at 1 PM in the Fellowship Hall to September 15, in Room 116 . Mary Ann Hickman will be the facilitator and Nancy Hall-Shelton the hostess. Bring your lunch; dessert and beverages will be furnished. |
Pastor's Wednesday Morning Bible Study
From Wounds to Whirlwind" September 15-November 17, 2010 10:30 AM Fellowship Hall |
Theological Worlds Want to know more about how your personality and theology relate to your family, friends, and fellow members of the congregation? Come better understand your theological self in order to better understand others. Come explore in community. As a person of faith, you may wonder why or how someone could use the name of God (or Jesus) to promote/protest something you think God (or Jesus) never would? How can two people, both Baptists, be near polar opposites on social or theological issues? Why do I get more out of a certain style of worship or preaching that differs from my friends? How do I look at God? Jesus? The Church? Questions like these will be explored in these sessions. A large part of this study will be based on Worlds Within a Congregation: Dealing with Theological Diversity, by W. Paul Jones (Abingdon Press, 2000). You can feel free to purchase this book from your favorite bookstore or online. Purchase of the book is NOT required, it is simply a resource.
Each Wednesday Night 7:30-8:30PM in the Church Parlor September 15-November 10 (Small group study, open to ALL ages and ALL people)
