Kristy Eggert and Liz Turner, two McAfee students connected with Northside Drive Baptist Church, are attending the Baptist World Alliance Congress in Honolulu, Hawai'I this week.  A BWA Congress offers a unique opportunity to meet 10,000 Baptists from 119 nations from around the world.  The Baptist World Alliance is a fellowship of 216 Baptist conventions and unions comprising a membership of more than 37 million baptized believers and a community of 105 million.  The Baptist World Alliance began in London, England, in 1905 at the first Baptist World Congress.
 
The vision of the Baptist World Alliance is to be a global movement of Baptists sharing a common confession of faith in Jesus Christ, bonded together by God's love to support, encourage and strengthen one another, while proclaiming and living the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit to a lost world. 
 

 
Zach Bay, our pastoral intern, and Eric Cain, our Maddox Pastoral Resident, are representing Northside Drive Baptist Church at the Annual Alliance of Baptists Convocation in Los Angeles, California.   The Convocation will be led by recording artist Carrie Newcomer, author, Mark Yaconelli, visionary leader of InterPlay, Cynthia Winton-Henry, and professor and pastor, James Chuck.  It will explore the notion that Jesus calls us to be born of wind (spirit) and water.
 
The Convocation description states, "'you must be born of wind and water...' is essentially what Jesus said to Nicodemus in the third chapter of John.  To which Nicodemus responded 'Huh?!?'  Just as the spirit knows no boundaries, just as wind and water cannot be truly confined, we too seek to create a community that knows no boundaries. Young and old, gay and straight, male and female, able bodies and differently abled bodies will find a place to be and a voice that invites them into a new and different way of being in the world, a new way of discerning God's call for their beautiful and beloved lives."

 

Energy, Intimacy & Hymnody.

Energy: We are lowering our utility expenses by moving into the chapel this summer. This expression of stewardship is environmentally responsible. Intimacy: The chapel is the church's original sanctuary built in 1954; for many members, it is coming home. Also, the space encourages a close, friendly atmosphere.  Hymnody: Though the choir is taking a summer sabbatical (so as to return rested in the fall), the chapel invites lively congregational singing from the Baptist Hymnal.
