2008-2009 CHURCH SCHOOL TEACHER RECOGNITION
The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires. ~William Arthur Ward
Northside Drive is not only a church that loves to learn, it is a church that desires to teach. The names of our 2008-2009 teachers reveal that Northside Drive truly has great and inspirational teachers. The congregation, staff, and leadership thank these teacher and community leaders for the long hours they have spent in preparation, prayer, and practice.

TRIPLE E: ENGAGE. ENRICH. ENJOY.
NDBC is forming a new group to continue the educational/missions programs, community outreach, and fellowship the WOC and PIA's have provided for many years. The idea of TRIPLE E is to ENGAGE with the world by keeping up to date on missions in the church, ENRICH our lives and others through learning and community, and ENJOY intergenerational fellowship with church members and guests. It will meet on the second Tuesday of the month, beginning in September 2009. To accomplish this, there must be a few by-law changes: IV. Church Committees and Auxiliary Organizations A. Church Committees--Add TRIPLE E and Special Care (baby meals and funeral receptions/meals for grieving families) to the list of church committees; remove PIA and WOC B. Church Council--Add TRIPLE E to the Church Council; remove PIA and WOC (Special Care will report in and be represented through the Diaconate) D. Nominating Committee--Add TRIPLE E to the groups providing a representative to the Nominating Committee; remove PIA and WOC. Add Worship/Music as the other committee providing a representative G. Auxiliary Organizations--Add TRIPLE E as an auxiliary organization; remove PIA and WOC The all important work of WOC and PIA will continue uninterrupted, as other groups pick up their tasks. We believe TRIPLE E will bring new life and new joy into what we offer our congregation and the community. | |

JOINING LIFESPAN IN AFFIRMING OLDER AMERICANS NDBC is a founding congregation of LIFESPAN. Formed in 1981, local congregations initiated the organization called North Atlanta Senior Services (NASS). This consortium implemented Lunch-n-Learn, Day Club, Medical Escort Transportation, and Faith and Action Friends and Neighbors. LIFESPAN volunteers give over 10,000 hours of service each year to meet the needs of the growing population of elderly in the Northwest Atlanta area. May is Older Americans' Month. It was first proclaimed by President Kennedy in 1963. NDBC joins with LIFESPAN in celebrating the service, wisdom, significance, and faithfulness of older Americans in Atlanta.

Laura Wheeler
NDBC Seminary Intern
May 31, 2009
11:00 AM Worship
Laura Wheeler is a second year ministerial student at McAfee School of Theology and the current NDBC Seminary Intern. Her internship has allowed her to practice the many skills for ministry such as preaching, teaching, pastoral care, and worship leadership through the guidance and mentoring of the NDBC staff. Laura's participation in the life of NDBC and her carrying out the roles of leadership have given her the needed resources and affirmation to pursue congregational ministry as a profession. Laura is a native of Raleigh, NC and a graduate of North Carolina State University with a B.S. in Business Management, concentrating in Finance and Human Resources. |

PRAYING FOR OUR YOUTH MINISTER, ERIC CAIN, ON PILGRIMAGE
Eric Cain I have spent my entire life traveling through the pages of the Bible-thumbing from the calling into Creation in Genesis to the mysteries of John's Revelation. I always wondered how it must have felt living in the "Holy Lands." It seemed like the only place outside of my small town as a child-the place where God spoke to Moses and where Jesus walked on water. This semester, I received a rare opportunity to finally visit this sacred spiritual center. Thanks to a grant with the Middle East Travel Seminar, I will be traveling with a few other seminary students, some lay leaders, and a few professors to Egypt, Greece, Israel, Jordan, and Syria over the next few weeks. I would appreciate prayer as I experience this three-week spiritual pilgrimage-that it may help nourish my soul and enrich my life as a disciple and minister. And I would appreciate those prayers for safe travel for my colleagues and me as we travel to places that represent holy peace, but often face struggles with violence. Pray, too, that we all grow as people of God. Know that I will be praying for y'all on the other side of the sea . . . Eric's Middle East Travel Seminar 2009 Itinerary

WORSHIP
IN THE CHAPEL
THIS SUMMER
June 7-August 9, we will meet in the Chapel for Sunday Morning Worship. August 16 will be our first Sunday back in the Sanctuary. The Chapel affords both intimacy and memory. Recalling our beginnings as "the church on the hill," we shall be nourished by our history and encouraged in our hope. In addition, by worshiping in the Chapel during the summer, we lower our utility expenses; plus, as an expression of stewardship, we want to be environmentally responsible. Remember the Chapel is now fully accessible to all and the accessible restroom is just down the hall. |
THE PAPERLESS PINNACLE
The Pinnacle is emailed as an attachment to the congregation and is available on the church website www.northsidedrive.org.
If you would prefer not to receive the Pinnacle by U.S. mail, please call 404-237-8621 or email us at info@northsidedrive.org to let us know. |
