JOINING LIFESPAN IN AFFIRMING OLDER AMERICANS'

NDBC is a founding congregation of LIFESPAN.  Formed in 1981, local congregations initiated the organization called North Atlanta Senior Services (NASS).  This consortium implemented Lunch-n-Learn, Day Club, Medical Escort Transportation, and Faith and Action Friends and Neighbors.  LIFESPAN volunteers give over 10,000 hours of service each year to meet the needs of the growing population of elderly in the Northwest Atlanta area.

May is Older Americans' Month.  It was first proclaimed by President Kennedy in 1963.  NDBC joins with LIFESPAN in celebrating the service, wisdom, significance, and faithfulness of older Americans in Atlanta.

TRIPLE E:  ENGAGE. ENRICH. ENJOY.

NDBC is forming a new group to continue the educational/missions programs, community outreach, and fellowship the WOC and PIA's have provided for many years.  The idea of TRIPLE E is to ENGAGE with the world by keeping up to date on missions in the church, ENRICH our lives and others through learning and community, and ENJOY intergenerational fellowship with church members and guests.  It will meet on the second Tuesday of the month, beginning in September 2009.

To accomplish this, there must be a few by-law changes:

IV. Church Committees and Auxiliary Organizations
A.  Church Committees--Add TRIPLE E and Special Care (baby meals and funeral receptions/meals for grieving families) to the list of church committees; remove PIA and WOC
B.  Church Council--Add TRIPLE E to the Church Council; remove PIA and WOC (Special Care will report in and be represented through the Diaconate)
D.  Nominating Committee--Add TRIPLE E to the groups providing a representative to the Nominating Committee; remove PIA and WOC.  Add Worship/Music as the other committee providing a representative
G.  Auxiliary Organizations--Add TRIPLE E as an auxiliary organization; remove PIA and WOC

The all important work of WOC and PIA will continue uninterrupted, as other groups pick up their tasks.  We believe TRIPLE E will bring new life and new joy into what we offer our congregation and the community.

CAMP HOPSCOTCH

The NDBC Preschool is excited to invite our Church families to Camp HopScotch.  This fun-filled camp offers six (6) full week camp sessions, each with its own theme.  All sessions include worship, art, music and movement, sign language, fun experiments, playground time and a special activity chosen for the week's theme.  Camp HopScotch is staffed with Northside Drive Baptist Preschool teachers whose goals are to provide your child with a safe, exciting camp experience.  The camp is open to children 12 months through 12 years of age.  Please pack a snack, lunch and change of clothing for your child.  Each camper receives a free t-shirt!

Counselors in Training-For kids 10-12 years old, it is all about learning to lead! Like the younger campers, having fun will be a priority, but these counselors will also have responsibilities like planning worship, other activities, and assisting the teachers for a small part of the day. They will learn CPR and basic safety, diaper changing and infant care, story telling, problem solving and good decision making.  (CIT hours are 9:15 AM-2:00 PM each day-spaces are very limited.)
