200,000 MEALS READY TO SHIP!

Six-year-old Kylee brought a picture she colored of San Diego palm trees and a note of encouragement to those who might receive the meals she helped package this past Saturday. Thanks to her effort and the effort of the other 1,400 volunteers who supported FFCC's 40^th Food Packaging Event, it was a wonderful success! We packaged 200,000 meals for local families in need and those struggling in Tanzania due to the drought and poverty related issues. Your work will make such a difference in the lives of these families!

A big 'shout out' to all the high school students who represented on Saturday! We had more than 10 different high schools engaged in our 'Fight Against Hunger'. We packaged more meals during the high school hour than any other. Way to go students! Let's have an event on each of your campuses this year!

We also appreciate the donations of the over-the-counter medications that you brought to the event! Our medical team will use them for our clinic in Haiti this November. If you didn't get a chance to bring any to the event, it's not too late. Drop them off at the Poway Dream Dinners (12218 Poway Road, #100, Poway 92064) before Oct 15^th and we'll get them packed.

FFCC would also like to express its gratitude to Wal-Mart, BJ's Rentals, Dream Dinners of Poway, SKS Petroleum, Shuster Oil, Poway Community Association, and Pepsi for their generous support.

Kaylee's drawing is tucked safely in one of the food boxes and is being loaded into the shipping container this week! Let's keep it going- San Diego County's Fight Against Hunger!

CITY OF POWAY RECOGNIZES BACKYARD PRODUCE PROJECT!

FFCC has been partnering with the Backyard Produce project for a while now, and the results have been phenomenal! Over 55,000 pounds of fresh and free vegetables and fruits have been donated so that local families in need could enjoy healthy eating. The group was recently commended by the City of Poway with an official proclamation! Many thanks to the hundreds of volunteers that work so diligently to provide this bounty for FFCC to distribute!

Are you interested in a Tanzania adventure in February, 2013?

This Monday, September 17^th, FFCC will host an informational meeting for anyone interested in traveling with us to Tanzania Africa. If you are interested in attending, please contact Tina Socha at tina.socha@san.rr.com for more information.

mom with kids YOU CAN HELP!

One of our community members is struggling. She is a single Mom who left an abusive marriage to provide a more peaceful and stable home for her two young boys. She is in desperate need of odd jobs to make her September rent. She has volunteered for FFCC now for over two years, helping other families that need food assistance. Debbie doesn't have transportation or a driver's license, but she could clean house, and previously has been a caregiver for a paraplegic man and before that for the mentally ill. She is a great inspiration who is down on her luck. If you can help Debbie or hire her for part time work while her boys are in school Monday thru Friday from 8:30am to 3:00pm, please contact Becky at bpalenske@san.rr.com.

Also, FFCC has met five families in need that could use help with items for newborn babies. We would like to assist these families with diapers and wipes, and newborn clothing for boys. We're also looking for two gently used cribs. Contact Becky at bpalenske@san.rr.com if you can help.
