FOOD PACKAGING EVENT UPDATES
- On June 1st, FFCC partnered with Creekside Elementary to package over 12,000 meals! Thank you Creekside for stepping up to help the hungry of San Diego and starving of those around the globe!
- Over the coming weeks, FFCC will partner with the Poway Cub Scouts (June 15th) and Poway Boy Scouts (July 27th) for our 37th and 38th Food Packaging Events. These two private events are set to pack another 10,000 meals!
- The Real Living Real Estate, originally planned for July 27, 2012, will be slightly postponed. More details to come!
ATTENTION SAN DIEGO COMMUNITY! If you belong to a church, business, or organization that would like to partner with FFCC to further this food packaging work, contact Phil Harris (philffcc@san.rr.com) or Tina Socha (tina.socha@san.rr.com).
DON'T FORGET! Your donations make a difference! At 25 cents/meal, $20 provides 80 meals to hungry people here in North County and around the world! Click here to calculate how many meals your planned donation can provide! |
LOCAL OUTREACH
ALBERTSONS' FRESH RESCUE PROJECT
Our partnership with Albertsons is helping to provide over 4500 lbs of fresh food each month. We're still looking for volunteers who can help for 2 hours on a Monday or Friday morning to pick up the donated food and deliver it to the community in need. If you're available between 8:45am and 10:30am and would like to join this outreach, please contact Becky atbpalenske@san.rr.com.
One of the grateful recipients, a single Mom of 4 boys, wrote to FFCC with a message of gratitude..,
Hello - I hope this finds you well. I just wanted to thank you and all else responsible for the chicken and other groceries that have been given. We are truly blessed to have you all in our lives. You are very much appreciated!!

TANZANIA TRIP #12
READY, SET, GO!

People have sometimes suggested that FFCC could make more of an impact in the countries we are trying to help if - instead of sending volunteer teams - we just sent the money. Perhaps, in some way, that is true; however, I have come to understand that poverty isn't just a lack of material goods. It comes in many forms. And there is an undergirding that comes when those we help meet us and get to know us. They are encouraged by the fact that we care enough to come and visit and work alongside them. And when individuals from our community come face to face with the warmth, strength, ingenuity and simplicity of those we meet as we travel to places like Tanzania and Haiti, we are a little richer for it, as well.
Here is a letter from Sohini Desai, a student at Mount Carmel High School. She traveled with FFCC to Haiti this past April-
As Phil Harris once told me, "The days in Haiti are long, but the week is so short." Each day seemed to eclipse the last in terms of greatness and excitement. It is extremely difficult to think of just one moment that has stuck with me. There are a plethora to choose from. I'm flying back home with a surplus of meaningful memories- some joyous and some heart breaking. One thing I can say for sure, though...This trip has given me courage to pursue my goals in both my life at home and the goals of FFCC. If this trip hadn't impacted me so greatly, I wouldn't be planning on traveling back next spring. I want to offer a big 'I LOVE YOU' to my Haitian family that I will hopefully see again soon and a big 'I LOVE YOU' to my family at FFCC that I can't wait to continue to impact Haiti with.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This Monday, 12 more FFCC San Diego volunteers will get on a plane - this time to Tanzania, Africa. We are made up of three high school students, two recent high school graduates, one college student & six working class stiffs! Of the 12, four of us are returning for more of what we have tasted of on past trips, the other eight will experience Tanzania and the wonderful people there for the first time. We will be joined by six college students from Azusa Pacific University who will be working alongside us.
We are packing water filters, medical cream, food packages, school supplies, handmade backpacks, blankets, and lots of hugs for those we meet. We'll be gone for 16 days. The Azusa team will stay six weeks.
Keep us in your thoughts and prayers. If you would like to receive the daily updates (technology permitting!), you can send your email address to Steve Socha at sbsocha@san.rr.com and he will add you to the distribution list. We look forward to sharing about the powerful impact, both on ourselves and hopefully on those we meet. Thank you FFCC community for all the ways you support this effort!

LOCAL OUTREACH NEIGHBOR NEEDS
Thank you for your continued support of our local community! Please let us know if you can be of assistance with any of the needs below by contacting Becky Palenske at bpalenske@san.rr.com.
- Gently used double stroller
- Newborn baby boy clothing - gently used
- Bunkbed frame and one twin mattress
- Diapers in sizes newborn, 1, 4, and 5
- Dining chairs that are not too large
- FFCC Food Pantry needs at Grace Point Church: We are low on most of the non-perishable foods we keep ready for families who are struggling. Summer is a tough time because children are eating more meals at home. Please contact Becky if you can donate or host a food drive. Also, refrigerated storage is needed, as we now have more donations of fresh food.
- Additional storage space needed for non-perishable foods: Our biggest food drives are coming up in the fall and next spring. We need a free, enclosed, and well-lit space of 300 square feet or larger in the Rancho Penasquitos, Rancho Bernardo, Poway, or Scripps Ranch area.
