I have so much to be thankful for as I look back over 2011. I'm thankful for my wife and my children and my soon to be granddaughter in March. I'm thankful for the FFCC Board and the leadership and wisdom they provide that keeps FFCC on track and moving forward. I'm thankful for the thousands of volunteers that give of their time, treasure and talent to our homeless outreach, low-income adult seniors, after-school homework clubs, food packing events, outreach to community families, community garden, community food distribution, water filter outreach, thanksgiving food baskets, high school fight against hunger clubs, travel and volunteer support in Haiti and Tanzania, etc.
One of my most treasured memories of 2011 is the design and build of a 30' taxi trailer for the largest leper colony in Tanzania, called Charedeleco. Your donations and support allowed FFCC to provide this trailer along with a brand new 75hp, 4 wheel drive tractor and 3 disc plow. This gift will be presented to the people in Charedeleco in February 2012, when our 10th FFCC volunteer team travels back to Tanzania.
This colony will be forever changed as this gift will allow the people of Charedeleco to begin to move towards a life of self sufficiency. Most of us have not seen the incredibly devastating effects of leprosy, but there are 400-500 lepers in this village that struggle each day to survive. The taxi-trailer will provide transportation for getting around the village and the tractor will assist them in plowing a 2-acre parcel of land donated by the village leaders, allowing them to grow their own food source. The tractor, plow and driver will also be rented out to local farmers to raise funds that will both help keep the tractor and equipment properly maintained, as well as help those in the colony who can't support themselves.
Thank you FFCC family for your support. You have greatly impacted an entire village of people in desperate need. This gift will change their quality of life and allow them the opportunity to hope and dream again. All because you cared enough! Happy Thanksgiving!
