THANK YOU!

FFCC'S 27TH FOOD PACKAGING EVENT
San Diego's Fight Against Hunger continued on Sunday, October 23rd when we packed 135,000 meals at The Centre at Lexus Escondido!  With nearly 850 volunteers, FFCC's 27th Food Packaging Event was another incredible example of how our community can positively impact the needy here in San Diego, as well as around the world!  Thank you for all your support!

LEPER COLONY TRAILER SEND OFF IN STYLE

FFCC would like to give a special thanks to Carolyn Ralph, friend of FFCC and owner of Country Flowers and Antiques in Escondido who donated and wrapped the the trailer for a classy send off. This trailer is now on its way to the residents of the Charedeleco leper colony in Nkungi Village, Tanzania, and will be used to transport these people, who suffer from the effects of leprosy, to and from their homes and farms. When the trailer is presented to the Charedeleco residents in February 2012 by the FFCC Team, they will also receive the ribbon and bow that was signed by the many FPE volunteers, that they might know how many people care about them.

Another special, personal touch will be made possible because of the work done by our amazing event photographers.  Each volunteer group that was at the October 23rd event was photographed by the trailer. We will enlarge those photographs to poster size and deliver them along with the trailer and a new tractor, which will be purchased in Tanzania. Great job San Diego!  This vehicle will be such a blessing to these people!

FFCC's High School Clubs Are Taking Off!
FAH - RBHS club logo 2011
There were more than two hundred high school students at our Food Packaging Event on Oct 23rd.  Many of these students are involved in our Fight Against Hunger Clubs.  Since the event, we have had requests for more clubs.  It's wonderful to see so many young people wanting to make a difference and contribute in such worthwhile ways!

If you would like to be a part of the FFCC leadership team that is working to support and encourage these young people, please contact Tina Socha at tina.socha@san.rr.com

Sharing Your Thoughts And Praises

On November 23rd, FFCC will publish a special Thanksgiving edition of our newsletter.  We would like to give you a chance to express your gratitude in a brief letter to our FFCC community for ways that they have been a blessing to you and your family. Please submit your letter to Bridget Olson at olsonsbca@mac.com by Thursday November 17th.

While You Are Out...
Over-the-Counter (OTC) Medications for Haiti:  We are still collecting much needed OTC medications for Haiti.  Click here for a list of items that would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be dropped off at the Poway Dream Dinners (12218 Poway Road, Suite 100).
Home for the Holidays:  This is a special program sponsored by the MCAS Miramar Enlisted Recreation Center. It coordinates placement of single servicemen or women into the homes of community families to celebrate Thanksgiving, as well as Christmas. Caring families are asked to host service members who are unable to be with their own families and loved ones on these traditional family holidays. These families are carefully selected to suit our active duty service members and host preferences. The link is: http://www.mccsmiramar.com/greatescape_homefortheholidays.html
Local Family Needs: Several local families are struggling to provide some of the basic necessities for their children.  Please look at some specific sizes of children's gently used clothing that are currently needed and listed below. For more information or to arrange a drop-off of donations, please contact Becky at bpalenske@san.rr.com.
  • Boys size 12 husky pants
  • Boys size 14 husky pants
  • Boys size Large shirts, and especially long sleeve shirts and hoodies in great condition.
  • Girls size 12 and 14-16 clothing also needed, especially pants and jackets.
  • Teen girl size 0 pants and x-small tops needed.
  • Gift cards (Target, Sears, Wal-Mart, Kohls) for shoes, underwear, and socks for several children in need.

Below is a note of thanks from a local, single Mom we have helped this past year.  She has two teenagers that have needed shoes. Through your donations, we have also been able to assist with groceries. This family has already given back by assisting in our food pantry several times.

"I wanted to thank FFCC for all of your support and help this past year. God Bless you . Call me if I can be of service."
