Filters for Life

  water in haiti

We are making an impact! FFCC continues to change lives through clean water with the installation of over 150 water filters in Haiti and Tanzania. And, we're just getting started! We're working with the village of Nkungi, Tanzania to have a filter installed in every home in the village - about 1,200 in all - by the end of 2012.  Results, you ask? Many! For example, the cholera epidemic was virtually eliminated in our "adopted" tent city of Aviation, Haiti last spring after our team installed over 40 water filters in stations throughout the tent city.

Now, we've teamed up with technology to allow you to locate the filters you've donated, once installed, and see the families you are helping!  Check out our new web experiencewhich will transport you through Google Earth to the site of your filter installation, providing a picture and brief bio of the family (or families!) you are helping.  Please click here to check it out and let us know if you have any technical difficulties, as we are continuing to develop and update this "tour".

Each filter is installed by an FFCC team of volunteers on trips to Haiti and Tanzania. The installation process involves several steps and begins with an interview with each family to gather demographic information. After the interview, the family is taught how to use, clean and care for their water filter.  Then, perhaps most importantly, the family demonstrates to the installation team their proficiency with the newly installed filter by filtering a bucket of water and cleaning the filter.  Once that's been done, we know we've left the filter in good hands!

FFCC also performs follow-up visits after installation to ensure the family continues to use the filter properly and that it remains trouble free.  When properly cleaned, cared for and maintained, each filter should last for years to come.

Please consider donating one or more filters ($75 each) and/or joining FFCC on a trip overseas to be part of a filter installation team.  To date, we have raised over $18,750 for water filters. We need your support to continue making an impact. For more information about Impact H2O, please contact Pam at dlordr@cox.net.

Can You Help?
From one of our FFCC families...Our daughter is 34, a wife and mother of adorable 5 and 8-year-old girls. She was diagnosed with late stage Lyme disease over a year ago and currently is being treated with IV antibiotics that she receives through a chest port. She will be losing her job in the next week. She is unable to perform her duties as a fire inspector due to the ravaging effects of this disease. Her insurance, which she will be losing, does not cover the $50+ per day IV antibiotics, as a Lyme disease diagnosis is still considered controversial by the AMA. Our attempts to purchase the IV drug through Mexico pharmacies and hospitals has failed. Our family would be blessed with any help that might be provided.

Here are some ways we can help this family:
  • Monetary donations to cover the cost of medications - $1,500 a month
  • Gas cards for travel to treatments
  • Grocery cards
  • Prayers for relief from the myriad of symptoms- pain, cardiac issues, "herxing" seizures, brain fog, etc.

NOTE: Donations can be sent to FFCC (address below) or entered online (click here).  Please mention the gift is for "support against Lyme disease".
