August 26, 2011

Greetings!

FFCC returned from our 8th trip to Haiti on Sunday, August 21st.  The team was incredible! I'm always amazed at how hard our teams work and how much they accomplish under very difficult conditions.  It was near (or over) 100 degrees each day with humidity just as high.

The team continued the construction on the orphanage in Gressier and brought it to 90% completion.  We installed 17 water filters in 2 different communities.  We brought our packaged meals, clothes, games, and school supplies to 2 different orphanages and Aviation Tent City. We met with the Secretary of State, Minister of Transportation, and 2 different Congressman to deepen our support from the government.

We came home with a Port Exemption Letter from the government ensuring that all future containers to Haiti will be duty free.  That is a $4-$5k savings per container!  Also, the city of Leogane is donating 20 acres as their contribution for our sustainable food/agriculture program.

The work is slow, but our commitment and our perseverance are stronger than ever.  Thank you, FFCC family, for your donations and support as we continue to help bring hope to the people of Haiti.

This Monday night (August 29th, 6:30pm) is our Haiti Trip #9 info meeting.  If you would like to travel with us in November or if you want more information or wish to RSVP for Monday night's meeting, email Tina at tina.socha@san.rr.com.  It will be a life changing experience!

Thank you!

Phil Harris

 IMPACT H2O

Meet the Family You are Saving Today!

        Impact H2O Singida Family

FFCC is determined to bring clean water to those in need!  We can stop the transfer of water-borne diseases, like parasites, Cholera, Typhoid, and Salmonella that are killing people in places like Tanzania, Africa and Haiti.

For example, for the Nkungi Clean Water Project - $90,000 worth of filters are needed to protect the 6,000 villagers (1124 homes) ... $10,000 has been collected so far.  July 2012 is the date we hope to reach this critical, life-saving goal.

How can you help?  Donating $75 today will begin saving even more lives!  If donating online, enter "Clean Water" in the special instructions box, so we know where to direct your donation. Click here if you would like to give the gift of clean water today!

Already donated?  NEW! CHECK THIS OUT!  Through technology, you can now travel across the world to see the impact that your donation is making.  Meet the specific family, whose lives you are saving - literally!  Go to our Impact H2O page now for a tour!

Local Neighbor Needs

  • Storage space still needed!  Our desire is for a donated space that is approximately 300 square feet and is located in the North County area. Space will be used for non-perishable canned & dry foods. If you can help with this need, please contact Becky Palenske at 858-538-2492 or bpalenske@san.rr.com
  • More school supplies? Yes please!  Local children have been excited to go back to class prepared with the things they need! We still need 3x5 notecards, tab dividers for binders, and spiral notebooks (college ruled).  You can simply drop donations off at Dream Dinners in Poway (12218 Poway Road, Suite #100) or contact Becky (bpalenske@san.rr.com).
  • Gift cards for families in need!  Donated gift cards to Target, Wal-mart, Payless, and Kohl's would be greatly appreciated for some necessary back-to-school shopping for local children in need. At least 20 local families have asked FFCC for help. If you can help, please contact Becky at  bpalenske@san.rr.com.

             A Note of Gratitude!

Here is a message from the Bolton-Lum family regarding the many ways FFCC helped when Margaret suffered from a brain tumor:

Thank you (FFCC) for the many things that helped our family over the past months and all the help around the house. They were such a great help and comfort in helping Margaret feel better and making life easier for the rest of us.

With great affection,
Chris, Don, Will and Alex
