| Greetings and Happy New Year!
Here we are at the start of another new year and new decade full of promise. Many of you have probably made resolutions. Are you able to turn those reslutions into actions and results?
In this issue I provide tips to help transform some of the most common resolutions into healthier lifestyle modifications and clarify common misconceptions about exercise and eating for fat loss.
Earlier in 2009, National Public Radio (WNPR) paid us a visit to see what we were about. It was an interesting segment and highlighted the benefits of a thorough preventive health assessment.
Here's to your health... |
| Endurance vs Interval Exercise |
Which Body Looks Healthier to You?
For decades, most experts and public health agencies have advocated moderate intensity, long duration exercise to improve health and maintain body weight...but we shouldn't forget what happened at the first ever marathon: Phidippides ran 26.2 miles from Marathon to Athens to report on the victory of the Greeks over the invading Persians. When he arrived, he announced "Nike!" which means victory, then collapsed and died. Is that really the model we want to emulate?

| New Year's Resolutions |
Keys to Success
As we start 2010, and the battle for weight loss rages on, many will make the all too familiar New Year's resolution to lose weight, exercise and get into better shape. It is, after all, fairly common knowledge that obesity (particularly abdominal obesity), physical inactivity and smoking all increase the risks of developing chronic diseases and dying prematurely... Unfortunately, most do not accomplish their goals. This is, in part because their goals are not attainable (losing too much weight in too short a period of time, or only for a vacation or particular event) or they do not have an organized plan.
