Michigan Legislature Eliminates Charter School Cap
|
In December, the State House of Representatives passed SB 618 which eliminates the 150 school cap on charter public school and provides thousands of parents and students more educational choices. Governor Rick Snyder has signed the bill into law by now.
Such historic change doesn't happen easily. The bold leaders in the Michigan Senate and House of Representatives that looked past the fear and misinformation from people trying to protect the status quo in education are to be commended. Locally, Ken Horn, 94th District Representative, and Jim Stamas, 98th District Representative, voted in favor of this bill. Unfortunately, our other local Representative, Democrat Stacy Irwin Oakes of the 95th District, voted against it. This would be a good time to contact the legislators that supported this monumental legislation and thank them for supporting parents and students, and the freedom to choose in education.
