Dear Friends,

The Michigan Republican Party has created a Precinct Delegate Manual to help orient precinct delegates and assist them in becoming effective grass roots organizers.  If you have been a precinct delegate or have any interest in becoming one for this important election year, please contact me at gopgal@charter.net.  I will also have some at the meetings.

Poll On Republican Senate Candidates

NO Senator Stabenow
The Detroit News recently published a cyber survey on the race for the US Senate.  Findings were:
Clark Durant 39%
Pete Hoekstra 27%
Peter Konetchy 9%
Gary Glenn 5%
Randy Heckman 2%
Unknown 12%

Unfortunately, the survey also found incumbent Debbie Stabenow leads either Clark Durant or Pete Hoekstra.  But once the Republicans choose our candidate and it becomes a head-to-head race, things should tighten up.  Stabenow was found to be weak in the survey, as she hasn't cracked the 50% threshold against either Republican. The poll also found 52% of voters have a negative view of the job she has done, while only 41% had a positive view of her performance.

Freedom To Work Updates
Michigan Freedom To Work

Legislation to make Michigan a Freedom to Work state will be introduced very soon. The Michigan Freedom to Work Act would guarantee that no resident of Michigan can be required, as a condition of employment, to join or pay dues or "fees" to a labor union. Such a law would also reaffirm and strengthen the existing federal labor-law provisions that bar hiring discrimination against union members. Currently 22 states have passed similar laws. These laws are commonly known as "Right to Work" laws. Freedom to Work without being forced to join or pay dues to a union is a basic civil right. While other civil rights laws protect employees from being discriminated against or fired based on membership or non-membership in a certain race, creed, color, or sex, a Freedom to Work law prohibits job discrimination on the basis of membership or non-membership, or financial support or nonsupport, of a private labor organization.  Individuals would retain the right to join or financially support a labor union, but could not be compelled to do so.

As detailed in The Blaze, one of the most ridiculous and dangerous examples of forced unionism to come to light recently is Michigan's new practice of forcing a family to pay union dues for providing care to their own children!  This is a leftover from the Granholm administration, where all home health-care "workers" have been automatically placed into a union, in many cases without their knowledge or consent. The stipend they get from the state has monthly union dues deducted, which go to the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

Besides the issue of personal liberty, Freedom to Work states also enjoy better employment rates.  Of the five most successful states in job growth from 1999-2009, all were Freedom to Work states, while the biggest losers were all forced-unionism states, with Michigan at the bottom of the heap.  You can find more details at Michigan Freedom To Work.  On the national level Freedom Works is working with Congressmen to sponsor a national Freedom To Work law.

The Republican mission seeks to maintain a strong defense, encourage individual achievement and liberty through the free enterprise system, and strengthen families.  If you would like to help us move the area and the country towards these goals, please consider donating to the Saginaw County Republican Committee.  Every donation, no matter how large or small, will help ensure that we can find and elect people to work for those goals.  You can do so by mail to PO BOX 6653, Saginaw, MI  48608 or on the web at www.saginawcountygop.com.
