News & Events

Dear Friends,

Here's a neat test of your knowledge of current events. Unfortunately, it indicates that the majority of Americans haven't the slightest idea as to what is going on. It's no wonder our politicians take such advantage of us. It's from the Pew Research Center and you can review your results against the general public.  There are no tricks here - just a simple test to see if you are current on your information.  It's just 11 questions: give it a try and good luck.

Governor Rick Snyder Town Hall in Caro

Governor Rick Snyder

Everyone is invitated to attend a town hall with Governor Rick Snyder on Monday, August 29th in Caro. Representative Kurt Damrow is hosting the Governor at the rear banquet room of the Brentwood Restaurant, 178 Park Dr, Caro, from 3:30-4:30pm.  The event is free and open to the public.  There will be a question and answer period following the Governor's remarks.

Republican Presidential Candidate John Davis In Caro
John Davis

We've all heard about the very crowded Republican field of presidential candidates, but there's at least one name most of us haven't heard of.  John Davis has been called a "low profile", "dark-horse," or "long shot" candidate. He certainly doesn't have political celebrity or entertainer status. And he most certainly is not a politician.  But Mr. Davis is running for the Republican nomination for President.

For his campaign, he has set the ambitious goal of visiting every one of the 3,143 counties across the country. He will be stopping in Caro on August 25th. The visit will be a quick "whistle stop" that lasts approximately 25 minutes.  He already has visited with thousands of people in 1028 counties of thirty-two states.

Davis is not discouraged by his low profile and not being mentioned in any of the polls at this time. He's been offered encouragement everywhere he goes. "I'm okay with not being in the typical media/political dog fight. I'd rather be on the road listening to what the people have to say," he said. "They want a common-sense guy," Davis said. "A lot of people don't want a career politician in office. They want a leader that will make the tough decisions. I am the guy that has what it takes to make the tough decisions and to get the job done. I have what it takes to be the President of the United States of America."

Government Spending Doesn't Grow Economy

Looming Debt

US Representative Tim Huelskamp (R - Kansas) noted last week that the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) is unable find a single government spending item that drives economic growth.  He stated that he had "clearly" asked CBO director Doug Elmendorf to point to a single government expenditure that "drives economic growth." But, in a four-page written response, Elmendorf does not name any expenditures he and the CBO believe directly caused economic growth.

How come we already knew that?  How come so many in Congress, not to mention the President, don't know that?  You can read more details in the Daily Caller, and please keep reminding your Senators and Representatives to just spend less.  After all, the spending is not helping the economy anyway.

History Repeats Itself

1934 Cartoon

This cartoon was published in the Chicago Tribune in 1934. Look carefully at the plan of action in the lower left corner.  Remember the adage: "Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it."
