Congratulations to Brian Frey, recently elected as the new Vice Chair of the Saginaw County Republican Party! Brian has worked tirelessly over several election cycles, running our headquarters. We look forward to his work in this important position also.

And, DON'T FORGET THE FAIR! The Saginaw Fair runs July 26th-30th, at the fairgrounds, 11350 Peet Rd, Chesaning. We have a booth there, so stop out and visit. Even better, stop out and help man the booth.

Representative Ken Horn's Annual Shroast

Representative Ken Horn will hold his annual Shields Corn Roast fundraiser on Thursday, July 28, 2011, from 5:00-800pm. As always, the event will be at the Shields Men's Club, 605 S. Miller Road, Saginaw. Cost is $35.00 per person or $50.00 per couple, with kids under 12 free. Come enjoy music, great barbecue...and of course corn too!

The Michigan Republican 5th District Committee and a consortium of other local Republican organizations are presenting the 3rd Annual Reagan Memorial Dinner Cruise. The cruise takes to the Saginaw River on Thursday, July 28th, from 7:00-9:00 pm aboard Bay City Boatlines "Islander."

This relaxing cruise will take a trip through historic Bay City and follow the river toward Saginaw Bay. This is a casual, semi-seated event and guests will enjoy a delicious catered buffet and an informal, relaxed evening of fun and politics! Alcoholic beverages may be purchased from the onboard cash bar. Special guests will include Republican leaders and candidates for statewide office. The location is just south of the M-25 Veteran's Bridge in front of the Horak Printing building in downtown Bay City, and parking is adjacent to dock.

Dinner proceeds will benefit the 5th District. Silent auctions will also be held to benefit individual county parties. Cost is $50 per person, which includes the buffet dinner. Pete Hoekstra Will Run For Senate

Though he had earlier decided not to run in 2012, former Representative Pete Hoekstra (R) has realized that things in Washington have spun out of control. President Obama is unexpectedly walking out of congressional meetings. The Democrats who control the Senate, including Debbie Stabenow (who currently holds this Senate seat for Michigan), are holding our economy hostage so they can try to raise taxes on working families. Both the debt and deficit are spiraling out of control and all this is happening while people in Michigan are still struggling without jobs and just trying to make ends meet.

Pete states, "I cannot sit on the sidelines while Washington is mortgaging our children and grandchildren's future. Over the past several weeks, a number of conservative grassroots leaders from across Michigan have asked me to re-consider a U.S. Senate campaign. After talking to my family, I have decided to file the necessary paperwork so I can begin assembling a campaign and mobilizing supporters."
