Dear Friends,

Congressman Kildee To Retire!

Representative Dale Kildee

In case you missed the news, Congressman Dale Kildee (5th District - D) announced last week that he will be retiring at the end of his term in 2012.  He has served in Congress for 35 years, after previously being elected to both the Michigan House and Senate from his Genesee County districts.

While the 5th District boundaries have just been redrawn, it still includes his Genesee County base.  Some of the new areas wrap around Saginaw Bay as far north as the Tawas area and, all things considered, should provide Republicans with a great new opportunity to elect a representative for this district.  We came close in 2010, with Republican John Kupiec, also of Genesee County, getting 44 percent of the vote to Kildee's 53 percent.

Representative Ken Horn's Annual Shroast

Representative Ken Horn

Representative Ken Horn will hold his annual Shields Corn Roast fundraiser on Thursday, July 28, 2011, from 5:00-800pm.  As always, the event will be at the Shields Men's Club, 605 S. Miller Road, Saginaw.  Cost is $35.00 per person or $50.00 per couple, with kids under 12 free.  Come enjoy music, great barbecue...and of course corn too!

Congress Is Also Working on Jobs

United States Capitol Sometimes it seems like the only action down in Washington is on the debt ceiling, and all the action on that is just talk.  But Congress has actually been working on another of our country's most important issues: jobs.  The Republican-led House recently passed two bills that affect jobs: a bill eliminating certain permit delays that have held up energy production, and a bill streamlining the patent process which will help innovators.  Four bills to remove other barriers to energy production have received committee testimony.  You can find an overview of these and other bills at Speaker John Boener's blog , where you can also leave him a comment.
