In election news, former Congressman Pete Hoekstra announced Friday that he will not be running for the US Senate in 2012. He cited family reasons.
On the other hand, a new candidate has just announced, Peter Konetchy of Roscommon. He is running against Debbie Stabenow on a platform of decreasing the scope of government and addressing the tough spending cuts required to save our nation.

Office Hours And An Award For Dave Camp

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently presented Congressman Dave Camp (R) with the annual Spirit of Enterprise Award for his pro-jobs voting record during the second session of the 111th Congress. Thomas J. Donohue, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber, said, "The Chamber is honored to recognize Congressman Camp for helping create an environment in which businesses can grow and create jobs."
According to the Chamber scorecard, Congressman Camp maintained a 100% rating this year and holds a 96% ranking during his tenure in Congress. The Chamber scored Congress on 11 Senate and 9 House votes in 2010, including passage of a tax rate extension, health care reform, financial services reform, and legislation to promote science and math education.
Dave Camp has also announced his monthly office hours, held by his regional representatives, for various locations around the 4th District. Constituents are urged to simply show up, no need to make an appointment. His office hours for the month of April in Saginaw County are:

Saginaw Tea Party To Feature Local Washington Connection

 On Tuesday, May 17th the Saginaw Tea Party will host Jonathon Williams as a speaker. Some of you may remember Jonathan attending our Republican Party meetings while he was in high school. Since then, he's completed his degree, worked for the Tax Foundation in Washington, DC, and now serves as the Director of Tax and Fiscal Policy for the American Legislative Exchange Council. Last year, he co-authored the book, "Rich States, Poor States" with Wall Street Journal economist Art Laffer. Jonathon has also been a political commentator on NPR and Fox News. As usual, the meeting will be at the Texan Restaurant, 5656 State St, Saginaw, at 6:30pm.

Washtenaw County Republicans' Lincoln Day Dinner
|

Washtenaw County Republican Party will hold their Lincoln Day Dinner on Monday April 25, 2011. Their keynote speaker will be Congressman Eric Cantor (R), U.S. House Majority Leader. The dinner is at the Ann Arbor Marriott at Eagle Crest, 1275 S. Huron Street, Ypsilanti.
The evening begins with a private photo reception at 5:00pm, doors open for dinner seating at 5:30pm, the keynote address will begin at 6:10pm, and dinner is at 6:45pm. Cost is $60 per person if payment received by April 18, 2011 or $75 after April 18. You can also reserve entire tables. There is an extra cost for the photo reception.
