Republicans Fill the August Ballot! |
People from every corner of this great state are ready to Fix Michigan," said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser. "Residents are fed up with what Michigan Democrats have done to their families and our state and are eager to make a difference in Lansing. The enthusiasm in the grassroots is incredible: our candidates are genuinely excited for the opportunities we have this year to bring real change and reform to our hurting state."
Ron seems to be correct about feelings not only at the state level, but also about Saginaw County. In addition to having a candidate in all 110 seats for the State House, all 38 seats for the State Senate and all of Michigan's 15 Congressional seats, we have local candidates for 10 of the 15 County Commission seats. There are even Republican primaries in several of the districts, showing a level of interest we haven't seen in many years!
Here's a list of all the Republican candidates who filed by last Tuesday's deadline in Saginaw County. Watch for their campaigns leading up to the August 3rd election: we'll keep you posted on events. You can also click on their names if they show in blue, to visit their websites for more information.

Lansing Center Right Meeting |
The next meeting of the Center Right discussion group will be this Thursday, May 20th, from 9:30-11:00am. They will meet at 116 W. Ottawa St. in Lansing. The special guest will be Secretary of State and Lt. Governor candidate, Terri Lynn Land. She will be talking about the campaign and answering your questions. Among other speakers is Russ Harding of the Mackinac Center, who will speak on the topic " Can the State Take Away Your Right to Use the Water Under Your House?"
If you believe government is too big and intrusive, if you believe government taxes and regulates too much, then Center Right is where you need to be. Each month they discuss bills before the legislature that need to be defeated because they grow government, or supported because they put limits on government. You will also hear from local elected officials or activists who are keeping watch on the growth of government at the city, township and county level. And, you can network with local and state organizations like Mackinac Center, Americans for Prosperity, Education Action Group, MI-FairTax, and local Tea Party Organizations. A great place to strategize on how to be effective at protecting our liberties.
Do you have an item to discuss? Perhaps a bill before the Legislature, something going on in Washington? Any local issues at the County or Township level? If you see something going on in government that could infringe on your liberty and grow government, go and talk about it! You can e-mail the group to be put on the agenda.

What If YOU Could Cut The Federal Budget? |
Congressman Eric Cantor, Republican Whip, has just launched a FIRST of its kind project designed to change the permissive spending culture in Congress. It allows you to vote, either online or on your cell phone, on spending cuts that YOU want to see the House enact. Each week on YouCut there will be new programs for you to select from. You can choose all or some. The results will be available the following week. This will be a new way to hold Congress accountable for the lack of transparency they have offered and show that Americans are NOT interested in their runaway spending.
Some recent samples of budget items you could vote to keep or scrap were: Presidential Election Fund $260 million in savings This federal program provides matching funds to political candidates. Why should taxpayers be forced to fund candidates' campaigns?
Eliminate Wealthier Communities from CDBG $2.6 billion in savings The Community Development Block Grant program currently funds a wide range of local economic development activities, and is advertised as a way to help low-income communities. But funds are also dispersed to communities with income well-above the national average!
Try YouCut today and come back often to see just what type of waste Congress is proposing.
