Dave Camp Participates in the White
House Health Care Summit
|
Last Thursday, February 25, Congressman Camp was one of several representatives invited by President Barack Obama to the White House Health Care Summit. He shared his ideas on reforming health care, including possible ways to control and lower health care costs for American families, and ways to help cover those with pre-existing conditions. Dave received recognition from media sources as diverse as Rush Limbaugh and Newsweek for his ideas.
Rush Limbaugh noted that Congressman Camp, while reading from the pending Democrat bills in Congress, "...was scoring three-pointers. This guy was sinking nothing but net from beyond 25 feet, time and time and time again." Noting that all Dave needed to do is read what the Democrats wrote, to show how bad it was, Rush offered, "He's reading from the bills, and that is death for Democrats. So he gets cut off. Obama cut him off and said, 'We're not here for this. We're trying to find common ground here.' They're reading from these bills, which is why a continuingly increasing margin of people, majority do not want this."
Newsweek commented that, "Republican Dave Camp was at least willing to play ball with Obama in his after-lunch exchange. He made specific points that could, conceivably, result in specific concessions. Or at least in a substantive argument. Kudos."
Dave intends to keep the pressure on and has an online petition you
may sign to oppose this bill and make your voice heard. You can sign the petition
and send it to your family, friends and neighbors. You can also visit Congressman Camp's website for more information or to sign up for his weekly updates at http://www.house.gov/camp/

Social Security - An Excellent History Summary
|
We received this a few days ago and Chair Tim Kelly thought it was worth passing on to everyone. It's a short history lesson on our Social Security system. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, a Democrat, and the Democratic-controlled House and Senate, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. At the time, he promised: 1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary - It is no longer voluntary.2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into the program - We now pay 7.65% of our annual income.3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year - Because of changes made by a Democratic-controlled House and Senate, it is no longer tax deductible.4.) That the money the participants put into the independent "Trust Fund" rather than into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program - Under President Johnson, another Democrat, and the Democratic-controlled House and Senate, the money was moved to the General Fund and Spent.5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income - Under President Clinton, with Vice President Al Gore casting the tie-breaking Senate vote, more Democrats, up to 85% of your Social Security income can be taxed. So, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away. And the worst part is uninformed citizens believe it! Help inform someone you know and forward this history lesson to them. As a bonus dumb idea, under President Jimmy Carter, another Democrat, and a Democratic-controlled House and Senate, immigrants who had not paid a dime into the program began to receive Social Security payments!

Economic Policies Matter
|

On Thursday, March 4, 2010, the Western Thumb TEA Party Group will be hosting a talk by Midland Economic Development Manager Jesse Atwell. Mr. Atwell will explain how Argentina's failed economic policies of the late 1980s mirror the current trend in the United States. The United States is not the first country to have economic problems, but we can learn from history which policies do not work. The failure of the Argentine government to respond effectively to its economic problems contributed to an erosion of investor confidence, massive capital flight, devaluation of their peso, and hyperinflation of 3,080% in 1989 and 2,314% in 1990.The event starts at 6:00 p.m. at the Bullard Sanford Library, 520 W. Huron Avenue, Vassar. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the program will conclude with a question and answer period. Mr. Atwell worked for Prestolite Indiel in Buenos Aires, Argentina and became their Managing Director/CEO. At Prestolite he was responsible for the plant's return to profitability after 1999. He developed Presidential and Cabinet level governmental contacts with Argentine, Brazilian and United States administrations. His international business experience gives him a unique prospective on economic policies. For more information, please contact Onna Clinesmith at tuscolatea@yahoo.com or 989-843-6274.
