Keeping Terrorists out of Michigan
|
The Michigan Coalition to Stop Gitmo North
salutes Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop, a candidate for state Attorney General, for his letter to the
White House expressing his "steadfast and vociferous opposition" to move
detainees from Guantanamo Bay to the maximum security prison in Standish,
Michigan or anywhere else on US soil. Senator Bishop also hosted the coalition's well-attended town hall last month in Rochester featuring national counter-terror experts. Congressman Bart Stupak, 1st District, is going to be
in Standish this coming Monday, November 30, from 5:30pm - 7:00pm at the Standish-Sterling
Central High School Auditorium. Please make sure that you share this with
everyone you know and encourage them to show up. It would be good to get as many people
as we can get to show him that we DO NOT want to house terrorists in our
local prison!
There is also a petition you can sign, sponsored by the Michigan Coalition to Stop Gitmo North, opposing moving these prisoners.

"Unexpected" Economic News of The Week
|
Each week it seems there are reports of economic data, and each week it seems they are prefixed with "unexpected." Sometimes you wonder if the experts ever guess (sorry, estimate!) close to the mark. Last week's news was reported on November 18, an "...unexpected drop in home construction." This week it was, "...newly laid-off workers filing claims for unemployment benefits fell more than expected last week." Anyone care to vote for their favorite for next week?
