Saginaw County Republicans
summer 2009 update
GOP elephant

What a crazy summer this has been.

Between the unusually cool weather here in Michigan and the scorching rhetoric coming out of Washington, most of us look forward to the fall with great anticipation of levelheaded thinking and common sense.  A commodity, I might add, that is in low supply but remains in high demand.

On the National level, this summer's healthcare debate has been very revealing for a number of reasons.  1) It has consolidated conservatives around our established belief, that Barack Obama is way beyond the mainstream of Middle America and supports a socialistic style of government heretofore unknown to these shores.  2) For the millions of independent and moderately conservative voters who may have taken a chance on Obama's candidacy of promised hope and change, those folk will be hard to keep in the Dem column for 2010 and even 2012, and 3) The glaring need to write legislation in plain and simple English that any fourth grader should be able to read and understand with clarity.

Last night I watched the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, a show I like despite its liberal bent.  Jon's guest was a woman who opposes Obamacare and the thousand plus page healthcare bill floating in Congress.   Both read aloud parts of the bill yet took from it different meanings.  How can this be?  How can something be written so that people with differing view points can "hear" what they both wish to?   I learned from this exercise that people we have elected to write and run government need to be extremely diligent in providing us the truth and simplicity written in grammar school English.  They should no longer be allowed to hide behind language that is contradictory, confusing, and clearly obfuscates their true intent.   (Read analyses of HR 3200 by following the links below.)

In Lansing, the Granholm/Cherry administration is presiding over the further ruination of what used to be the Michigan economy.  Despite recent Executive Order spending cuts, tax hikes over real reform will most likely prevail.  (So hold on to your wallets!)  Despite such nonsense, both the Republican Senate and the House caucus' have real plans for real growth for Michigan.  In fact, House Republicans say they can save the state $50 million just by limiting welfare to a maximum of four years instead of the current practice of lifetime availability (see the article below)

Meanwhile, here in Saginaw County, the Saginaw County Republicans continue to monitor things that have the potential to affect us all.  Our Republican county commissioners are trying to revamp the county road commission by adding two additional appointees to the road commission at no additional cost.  Their rationale behind this move is to provide more oversight on a multimillion-dollar budget currently overseen by only three like-minded, and unqualified Democrat party hacks.  So far their efforts have been met with disdain and party line voting at the committee level.  We'll see what happens next.

The Truth about HR 3200...from those who have read it.

Obama and the Democrats are in full campaign mode, crying out about the 'misinformation' and 'lies' that are being spread by those who 'oppose Health Care reform.'

But how can it be 'lies' when the issues raised are taken straight from the words in the bill itself?  Such as...will doctors face imprisonment if they go against government mandated standards for medical treatment?  Or ...will you have no appeal for government decisions about your treatment?  Or...will the government be able to establish a direct electronic line to your bank account?  These are all questions raised by those who've looked into HR 3200.  So, the question is ..who's telling the truth and who's telling the fibs?

We want you to get your facts from people who have actually read the wording in HR 3200 and analyzed it.  That's no easy task since it's written in a truly incomprehensible and unintelligable manner that only lawyers could love.

Here are links to analyses from trustworthy organizations that highlight pertinent sections of the bill.  Plus we've included a link to the actual bill so you can read the wording for yourself.  So go to it...(just be sure to have an aspirin bottle by your side)!

The Dirty Little Secret of How much YOU'D pay for Insurance Coverage under the proposed bill...

While the Democrats are warbling about how 'affordable' the insurance coverage under their bill would be, others have taken the time to crunch the details and the numbers to come up with the truth.

 And it's shocking.

If you are forced to buy insurance under their 'Health Insurance Exchange' (like when your employer drops private coverage in favor of the cheaper (to him) gov't coverage), your premiums will skyrocket.

By how much?

The GOP plan for a balanced budget for Michigan

(Why can't my mother-in-law be in charge of state spending?  Then we'd really see some changes...and fast!)

Unfortunately, the Democrats in Lansing don't listen to anyone when it comes to controlling their spending, and even now, in this midst of the worst economy Michigan has ever seen, are planning another tax hike on the few working families and businesses left in the state.

But the Republicans in both the House and the Senate have produced genuine realistic budgets that balance the budget without raising a dime extra from any citizen's pocket.  There are hard choices in there, to be sure, but they simply must be made when there is only a limited amount of money to go around.

Here are the links to these two plans.  Read them over, talk to your friends about them, and let's get the ball rolling for responsible, realistic government.  A government that recognizes it's a servant of the people, and not its taskmaster.

Why are there no Welfare Limits in Michigan?

At the recent Saginaw County GOP meeting in August, Rep. Ken Horn (R-94) made the astounding statements that Michigan has neither time limits on welfare benefits, nor a residency requirement to receive them.

He further stated that while a working and tax-paying family is moving OUT of the state every 12 seconds, many more are moving IN just to take advantage of these Welfare loopholes.

This is outrageous and must stop!

Call Jennifer Granholm and Andy Dillon (House Speaker) and demand they take immediate action to stop this bleeding of our scarce financial dollars.  Rep. Horn estimates that just putting a four-year-limit on receiving benefits could save $55 million in state dollars each year.  How much more could be saved by putting in a residency requirement?

Contact Granholm at:  (517) 373-3400 or (517) 335-7858
Contact Andy Dillon at: 517) 373-0857 or (888) 737-3455

Why are there no welfare limits in Michigan?

What's a common thread among all the Democrat plans to 'help' the economy:
  • take more of YOUR money
  • limit more of YOUR freedoms
  • Spend
  • Spend
  • and Spend some more...
Isn't it time for
REAL CHANGE?
