Giving Thanks: A Message from President Spinelli
The Thanksgiving holiday is upon us. This has been a hectic and productive semester, a time of great progress in the implementation of one of the boldest strategic plans in Higher Education today. At this special time of year, when calm descends on the campus, I am afforded a moment to pause and reflect on how grateful I am that we are a part of each other's lives and this extraordinary University. I cherish the opportunity to express my gratitude to you.
As a community, we are fortunate to have a dedicated and diverse faculty and staff. Your talents are a reminder that a commitment to higher education lifts both individuals and the society. I've learned a great deal from the world-class professionals here. Thank you.
To our students - You bring an inspiring vibrancy to campus. I am repeatedly struck by your creativity, hard work, aspiration and wonderfully charming humor. I appreciate the time we have together and look forward to seeing how you will take what you've learned here to demonstrate true leadership in your professions.
To our alumni - It is so gratifying to see how the alumni community has become reinvigorated over the past few years. Please know that your time, talent and support are meaningful and important, and have fueled our growth in both size and reputation.
Many exceptional people support this University, and I am grateful to the men and women who serve on our Board of Trustees. Their leadership is an essential component of a great institution.
My family, and especially my wife Carol, has become an integral part of the Philadelphia University community. The love of my children and my wife sustains me and is the foundation of my life.
I am fully aware that the greatest form of appreciation is to follow words with actions that support the people, communities and ideals for which I am grateful. I am mindful of the words of 19th- century American writer Edward Sandford Martin,
"Thanksgiving Day comes, by statute, once a year; to the honest person it comes as frequently as the heart of gratitude will allow."
Carol and I wish you and your families relaxation, peace and comfort during the Thanksgiving celebration. I look forward to seeing you when we return after the holiday to finish the final few weeks of the fall semester with the same vigor as we started.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Stephen Spinelli Jr., Ph.D. President
