As some of you are reading the July Wingin' It e-Newsletter, many of us are at Wing Ding 31 in Tulsa!

And since many of you will not be at Opening Ceremonies, I am going to let you know where Wing Ding 32 will be next year!

Ready??....Wing Ding 32 will be held almost in the geographical center of the United States...Des Moines, Iowa!

We are very pleased to be working with the Greater Des Moines Convention & Vistors Bureau to host next year's Wing Ding. And for those of you who have not been to Des Moines, it is a beautiful city with twin rivers and brand new facilities.

The riding in the area is surprisingly beautiful with rolling hills, fantastic food and fabulous restaurants.

If you sign up during Wing Ding, July 2-5,  we will give you a $5 discount. Go to www.Wing-Ding.org to fill out the Wing Ding 32 application and get your $5 discount, but do it ONLY during Wing Ding to qualify for your discount!

Please tell your friends and sign up July 2-5, 2009, or call us at 800-843-9460 or 623-581-2500!

Now, we'd like to get your ideas on a new name and new ideas on how to use this "old friend!"

Please write us at contest@gwrra.org with your name ideas. Make sure you include your name, Member number and telephone number on your contest entry.

Greetings!

July is a huge month for GWRRA. It is Wing Ding time and many of you are in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by the time this arrives at your computer. Or, maybe some of you are on your family's vacation visiting relatives and traveling. In either case, we hope you are enjoying Wingin' It and telling your friends to get signed up if they are not receiving it.

In this month's e-Newsletter, we are announcing next year's Wing Ding location (read Executive Message); will continue to tell you more about our Member benefits; feature another employee here at the Home Office; and remind you of some important items that seem to keep coming up in our Member Services Department. And, we are starting a new feature, "How GWRRA Impacted My Life!". From this feature, I hope to receive YOUR stories to reprint here, in Wing World magazine or possibly on our website and illustrate how GWRRA has had a positive impact on peoples' lives.

We are continuing the "Did You Know?" section, and we have a great coupon for a very popular GWRRA shirt at the bottom of the Newsletter. We are also featuring the Recruiter of the Year, Zelmer Williams. He happens to be a Chapter Director, so make sure you read his feature article below.

And finally, we are continuing the "Name the Spirit Contest!" Check out the details on the side and watch Wing World for more details...but you heard it here first!

Ride safe, Ed

Andrea Lowe
Member Support Supervisor

Andrea is from a city called Peoria and has lived in Arizona all of her life! Growing up she had two brothers and one sister, then about five years ago their family added two more kids from Russia, a boy and a girl. She loves big families!

She has worked for GWRRA for almost 11 years. Andrea worked as the receptionist for about two years, then worked her way back to Member Services. For the last six years, she was the Manager of Paul Hildebrand's side hobby, Pipe Makers Emporium, and is now the Supervisor of Member Services.

She processes new and renewal memberships, answers customers' phone calls, data entry and much, much more. Andrea loves working at GWRRA with our Members and her fellow associates. She is excited to see what the next twenty years look like!

On a personal note, Andrea has a wonderful husband, three kids and one on the way! In her spare time she loves to scrapbook, hang out with her kids and husband, travel, any water sports, spend time with her friends, and just relax (when she has the time)!
Aflac (American Family Life Assurance Co.)
Another GWRRA Discount Program
Aflac logo

Gold Wing Road Riders Association takes pride in providing a great service to the GWRRA membership in the form of a discounted medical benefit program, Aflac. Most folks hear about Aflac through their employers, but now you are eligible for either a personal accident or cancer policy through our Association Program with Aflac.

In these tough economic times and rising medical costs, we are very grateful to Aflac for offering our Members a discounted program.  For more than 50 years, Aflac has provided guaranteed-renewable insurance policies for millions of people worldwide. Aflac's voluntary insurance can help association members be prepared for unexpected life events. Aflac's voluntary policies offer GWRRA Members the option to apply for insurance plans that can address their families' needs and individual situations.

For instance, Aflac's accident policy pays cash benefits that policyholders can use where they're needed most in the event of an untimely medical emergency. The cash benefits can be used toward expenses like house payments, groceries, and car payments while you are away from work recovering from an injury.

Recruiter of the Year: Zelmer Williams
Zelmer Williams

GWRRA's Recruiter of the Year, 2008-2009, is Zelmer Williams from Gary, Indiana. Zelmer has been a Member of GWRRA since 2006, and he is currently the Chaper Director of IN-V as well as a Charter Member of that Chapter.

Zelmer recuited an astonishing 54 new Members into GWRRA this past year. Searcy Wilson is his co-rider. He has 2 boys, 1 girl and 7 grandchildren. All of his children are riders! Zelmer's ride is a black 2003 trike.

He has owned a towing company for the past 30 years and uses his building to host the Chapter Gatherings. It is called the "GWRRA Welcoming Center." Non-members often come to see what it's all about. Zelmer will be 62 this month and found GWRRA when his dealer gave him a Wing World magazine and the rest, as they say, is history!

What attracted Zelmer to GWRRA was the concept that the Association is family oriented; he could involve all his family; and all bikes were welcome. He had belonged to other organizations, but GWRRA appealed to him for these reasons. He and Searcy are planning  to attend the Region D rally in September.

Congratulations Zelmer on promoting the Recruiter of the Year Program and recruiting all those new Members into our GWRRA Family!

New Feature:
How GWRRA Impacted My Life!:

This new feature is going to appear each month that we get feedback from you, our Members. But first, I am going to explain its goal or intent!

The intent of this space..."How GWRRA has Impacted My Life!" is to share how your life, either personally or professionally, has been changed, enhanced or impacted in some positive way because of your involvement with GWRRA and its Members and Officers. Please address your e-mails to me at here.

And to show you what we mean, I am going to write the first story. As I may have explained earlier, I met Paul and Shirley during Wing Ding I in 1979. After volunteering for that event, I moved to Colorado in 1980 with my wife and bought my first Gold Wing -- A used, black, 1975 GL 1000 with Samsonite bags and a Vetter fairing. Paul found out and called me to start the first Chapter in Colorado. You don't say NO to Paul, so of course, I did! :)

From that point on, I started a few more Chapters and took some Rider Ed courses, because that was our focus! SAVE LIVES! I was on my way back from a new Chapter Gathering in Colorado Springs with 4 other couples (I was the tail-gunner), when I had a rear tire blow out at 75 mph. My wife freaked!

I remember it as if it were yeaterday. This was in 1981. I recall telling her to just sit still and don't move. (I just finished my Rider Ed course two weeks prior.) The rear end was wobbling terribly and we were on I-25, right lane, staggered formation, just like the book.....but the books weren't written yet!

I remember the instructor saying "NO BRAKES!", if this situation even happened. Luckily, I did not panic and just eased off the accelerator and started pulling to the right into the curb lane. I also remember big rigs zooming by us so fast I thought we would be pulled under their tires...it was so scarey! Luckily, when we got to the side and got slow enough, we let the bike just fall over.

We were both so grateful I just had that class! I will always be grateful to GWRRRA for promoting Safe Riding and having the continued INTENTION of SAVING LIVES!!!

As far as my professional life is concerned, I was a machinist for 17 years and was always taking classes to get out of the shop some day. Not that the profession did not serve me well, I just always wanted something different. When I finally got out of the service and decided to go back to college and finish my degree, GWRRA assisted in my leadership training through its Officers Training Program. And when I was your Executive Director (in the early nineties), I learned more about leadership, and volunteer management, than any University could ever teach me.

So, from my perspective, GWRRA has much to offer and has done much in my personal and professonal life to assist me in becoming a more fulfilled person, as well as a better rider and professional individual! Plus, I am here to talk about it!! What a better testimonial, eh?

Now, send me your stories and we'll see about getting them published here, in Wing World or on the GWRRA website. I look forward to hearing from you.

Reminders from Member Services
*  Here are the top three reasons to have and keep your e-mail address current:
-------3) It is required to have a current and correct e-mail to use the Message Boards.
-------2) Your e-mail needs to be correct and current to receive your renewal confirmations.
-------1) And the best reason to have a current and correct  e-mail in our system is to receive the Wingin' It, e-Newsletter! So, tell all your friends to update their e-mails in our system.
*********************************************************************
*  It is never too late or early to update your Gold Book listings. The deadline is always the beginning of November each year. But, if you have any changes you would like to make to your listing or you just want to check on your listing,  just call one of our friendly Member Sevice Representatives now and make those changes. This is especially true if you are a "snowbird". That way, next year all your Gold Book listings will be correct!
==================================================
*  When you change your address, be sure to update it in your online membership record or call Member Services. Failure to do so can delay the arrival of your Wing World magazine, sometimes as much as two months.

* When you change your address or renew your membership, your password for Wing World magazine and the Message Board will change. This is due to your password being based on the digits in your address and your expiration date. For help in determining your user name and password, just click on the following link
www.gwrra.org/members or contact Member Services at 800-843-9460 or 623-581-2500.

* It generally takes 2-3 weeks for new Member packets to arrive; however, it can sometimes take a little longer depending on the mail service. For our Canadian and International Members, please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery. If your packet hasn't arrived within 4 weeks, no matter where you reside, please call Member Services.

* Only two membership cards are issued per family; one for the main rider and one for the co-rider. Additional membership cards are available for purchase at $5 per card. However, not having a card for each additional family Member will not prevent them from being admitted to any GWRRA event.
Split Payment Plan --- GWRRA Cares!

GWRRA has now made it possible for Members facing tough economic times to pay their membership dues in 2 equal installments. A Member can pay one-half of their dues by credit card the first month and then the remainder in the second month, also by credit card.
