Want to try desktop virtualization? One way a 
client can start small is by using the free version of ESXi from VMware. If it works well and it does what you want it to do, then you can take advantage of any of the more advanced features by purchasing the product.  So there isn't much risk in taking the leap other than it being another software product to maintain over time, although minimally compared to a Microsoft operating system.
