Greetings!
It seems our bi-weekly newsletters have turned into monthly issues. That's a good thing. You guys are keeping us pretty busy and we really appreciate it.
The Kyolic Aged Garlic sales rep came by last week and dropped off a big bag of samples, so while they last we'll be handing out Kyo-dophilus and Kyolic Formula 100 samples. The Kyo-dophilus is a 3-strain, room temperature stable probiotic that has 1.5 Billion cells per capsule. Great to improve your digestive and intestinal tracts.
The Kyolic Formula 100 is their patented Aged Garlic Extract providing all the benefits from garlic with none of the odor.
Stop by, we would be glad to give you a sample of both.

Theanine Promotes Relaxation and Learning Ability
Last
issue's article on memory received a lot of interest so I thought I would
continue the subject by talking about an amino acid supplement called theanine. Theanine or l-theanine is related to the
amino acid glutamine. It is found in
large concentrations in green tea (Camellia Sinensis).
Some
very interesting research has been performed on theanine demonstrating that
theanine can help promote relaxation in periods of mental and physical
stress. It apparently accomplishes this
by increasing the body's production of GABA, serotonin, and dopamine. Serotonin and GABA help the brain relax and
dopamine is important to memory and cognitive function. Studies show theanine increases brain
Alpha wave activity (a way to measure relaxation and calm), while decreasing
Beta waves (awake, excited state) activity.
Some researchers hypothesize theanine may be helpful in treating
children with HDD and ADHD because of this effect.
Another
interesting study performed at Brigham and Women's Hospital and published in
2003 measured the levels of anti-bacterial proteins in a four week trial. The study took 11 coffee drinkers and 10 tea
drinkers with each group consuming 600ml (about 2 cups) of their drink. When the antibacterial proteins were measured
at the end of the study, the tea drinking group's level was five times higher
suggesting theanine could help improve the immune system.
Theanine
has been consumed in beverages, foods, and supplements since 1994 with no
indication of adverse reactions or contraindications. The FDA lists theanine on their list of
ingredients Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS). The suggested dose of theanine is between
50-200mg.

a few varieties like Roasted Red Pepper, Cucumber Dill (tastes like Greek
