Hello BOOSTERS!

We are pleased to announce one of our 2010 BOOST Conference Keynote Speakers- The Homework Lady.  Dr. Cathy Vatterott, better known as "The Homework Lady", has been researching, writing, and speaking about homework for many years.  Her innovative work provides us with research about homework, general purposes of homework, guidelines for reasonable homework limits, ideas for best homework practices, and help for parents in working with their children and their children's teachers.  Don't miss this opportunity to hear Dr. Cathy Vatterott speak, facilitate a workshop session and meet her during her book signing.

"THE HOMEWORK LADY" TO SPEAK AT 2010 BOOST CONFERENCE FRIDAY, APRIL 30, 2010

Homework Lady Photo
Dr. Cathy Vatterott is an Associate Professor of Education at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.  As a former middle school teacher and principal, and currently the parent of a college student, she has experienced homework from a variety of perspectives.  She is the author of numerous articles about education and three books-Rethinking Homework:  Best Practices That Support Diverse Needs (ASCD, 2009), Becoming a Middle Level Teacher:  Student-focused Teaching of Early Adolescents (McGraw Hill, 2007), and Academic Success through Empowering Students (National Middle School Association, 1999). She frequently presents at national conferences and has served as a consultant and workshop presenter for K-12 schools on a variety of educational topics.

She first became interested in homework as the frustrated parent of a 5th grader with learning disabilities.  Since then, she has presented her homework research to over 6000 educators and parents in the United States, Canada, and Europe and has conducted several Professional Development Institutes about homework for ASCD.  She has been interviewed as a homework expert for articles appearing in such publications as Parents magazine, Better Homes and Garden magazine, Child magazine, Working Mother Magazine, the Globe and Mail (Canada's national newspaper), and numerous U.S. newspapers and educational websites, as well as for radio and television.

For more information on Dr. Cathy Vatterott, please visit her website www.homeworklady.com

Dr. Cathy Vatterott will also be facilitating a 2 hour workshop and a Meet & Greet and Book Signing during the BOOST Conference on Friday, April 30, 2010.
