A message from the Editor of

The Winchester Star

Emily Costello

It's been another tough year for everyone, but especially tough for some. Right here in Winchester and in the surrounding communities, there are families struggling to pay the bills and put food on the table, let alone presents under the tree.

Gifts of Hope is a charitable endeavor sponsored by GateHouse Media, the Winchester Star's parent company, to aid needy families in our community during the holiday season.

Each year, the Star's staff chooses a local charity to partner with through the Gifts of Hope program. This year, the Star is proud to be working for the third year with Mission of Deeds. Mission of Deeds is a volunteer charity founded in 1993 by Winchester resident Tony Triglione to provide beds, furniture and household items at no charge to people in need. Although Tony passed away this year, the organization continues to fulfill his mission with the same care Tony gave it.

Over the next few weeks, we will be telling our readers more about Mission of Deeds through a series of front-page stories and we'll be encouraging local residents to donate directly to MOD.

This is your invitation to get your businesses involved, too.

How you can help?

Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots

Before that shopping gets really

crazy, if it hasn't already, why not have a look in your own toy closet. You might find a few new unopened toys you've forgotten you had. Probably something your kids received as a gift or you bought with the intention of giving as a present.

Chances are your kids don't even know they are there either.
Why not donate these new unused toys to Toys For Tots?

In Winchester you can drop toys off at

This would be a great way to make room for the new things Santa will bring you and you will be helping the less fortunate ones at the same time.

Happy Holidays

President's MessageJudy Manzo

Hi Chamber folks,

"On the first day of Christmas

my true love said to me"...

       Aren't we blessed to be

            in such a great community?

Winchester may be small in square miles, but is abundant with successful businesses. A review of our website indicates these members in many categories:

  9 - Arts & Entertainment, 9 - Attorneys,

25 - Community Resources, 17 - Financial, 9 - Hair Salon/Spa,

18 - Health Care/Fitness, 15 - Home Repair/Construction,

11 - Insurance, 13 - Interior Design, 17 - Medical,

22 - Professional, 16 - Real Estate, 24- Restaurant/Food,

33 - Retail, and 56 - Service.

Programs to promote sustainable practices of doing business locally such as the recent Small Business Saturday and Midnight Madness Holiday Shopping with Winchester Center retailers have been supported by hundreds of Winchester and nearby community residents. So I encourage ALL Chamber members to consider the many opportunities available locally to give the gift of your new
or continued business this holiday season. Keep more of your dollars where they impact our tax rate, support jobs, and make a stronger community.

Judy Manzo -

President Winchester Chamber Board of Directors

The Holiday lights in Winchester Center
are Spectacular!!!

Special thanks to Jay Gill, Mike Wise and Aaron Ashcroft for the magnificent way they have decorated the trees along Main St.  It is a show stopper and one that just lights up the center and makes shoppers feel really more festive - hopefully inspiring them to  spend their money locally.
Each year, the Chamber of Commerce organizes a fund raising campaign in partnership with Lights of Love to remember all of the children no longer with us.  This year many of you sent in your generous contributions. These are used to purchase lights, wreathes and to offset the  labor costs to place the lights on the trees throughout the center.  We could still use more help and would be most appreciative for donations of any amount  to Winchester Chamber of Commerce, 25 Waterfield Road.
Many people think that the town of Winchester provides all of the lighting - they do provide the manpower, but members of the Chamber and many local residents make this happen each year.
