President's Message Judy Manzo

Hi Chamber folks,

November is a month of intensity and giving thanks for all the freedoms and opportunities we take for granted. Attending our recent new member luncheon, Tereza Maria Pupeza of T.L.S. Spa Associates on Thompson St., spoke passionately about her fleeing Romania and coming to America some 15 years

ago. Tereza Maria said her dream of owning a business, especially for a woman in her "middle age", would never have been possible anywhere else! She loves America and Winchester and plans, with her associates, to offer high quality treatments for all her customers for years to come.

For us retailers it's a time of filling our shops with tantalizing gift choices and the "make it or break it" holiday sales season. These

sales can be as much as 45% of the total year income. The National Shop Local movement has gained strength and with the increased awareness of all our small business owners we can make a difference in

our neighborhoods.

I urge you to pledge to support at least a couple additional local stores, restaurants, and service businesses this year. Gift certificates are always appreciated and are available either directly from the business or you can use a Chamber Gift Certificate now available at Winchester Cooperative Bank, Winchester Savings Bank, Century Bank and Northmark. These can be redeemed at some 35 Winchester businesses.

During the month of October, the chamber held two events to give the membership the opportunity to exchange business cards, meet some of the talented members and take advantage of meeting many people in the business community. There were over one hundred women at the Design on a Dime event held at the Next Door Theater.
Many people made contact with potential new clients. At the luncheon at our new member Rodeo Mexican Grille, there were more opportunities for everyone to meet and greet.

Hot Topic: "Town Government 101"

Town Hall Auditorium

Winchester League of Women Voters presents its Fall Hot Topic "Town Government 101" on Sunday, November 20 from 2-4 pm at the Town Hall Auditorium. Representatives from Town Meeting, the Town Manager's Office, Finance, Capital Planning, and School Committees, and other town officials will be on hand to explain what they do and the vital role voters play in the civic life of Winchester.
