President's Message
The Citizen of the Year Award Dinner
was well attended. Many thanks to John Sullivan for hosting and to Cathy
and Mary for pulling this event off in style. Marie was in fine
form and quite a good sport about her roasting. I hope to see all of
you at Town Day on June 6, either in front of, or behind our grill, which
will be in the usual location at the corner of Waterfield and Laraway. The hanging baskets appeared last week, a few weeks
of sun and water will have them looking lush. Happy Summer! Chris Mulhern, president | |

The Phantom Review our new feature column If you haven't yet visited the MASA Southwest Bar and Grill - cancel your plans for tonight and head straight over there - with a couple of friends in tow. You won't be disappointed. From the decor, to the music - the staff - the food - it all comes together at Masa. Just 5 months in this their second location it's hard to imagine you're sitting in a strip mall. For some, that might be a negative, but don't let that deter you. The music and the friendly staff will take you somewhere else. The food is excellent and reasonably priced whether it be from the lunch, dinner or bar menu. The sports on the large screen TV's might seem out of place but not too intrusive - it's the vogue these days. Overall rating - excellent - 9.5 for me. the phantomreviewer

Executive Director's message
It's Good News and Bad News
First the Good News
The Women Helping Women event drew more than 400 women. The Citizen of the
Year Gala was celebrated with over 200 people. The Hanging Baskets are more
beautiful than ever and a welcome sight in the downtown center area.
There are more opportunities to apply for wine and beer licenses and we are
hearing from many interested people. Town Day already has over 200
vendors for the event and the excitement for this great tradition is wonderful.
Now the Bad News
We are seeing some businesses closing their doors. Businesses in Winchester are experiencing one
of the most serious downturns in many years and local merchants
are having a difficult time. We all need to make an
effort to SHOP LOCALLY and use LOCAL BUSINESS PEOPLE for service and
products. Please purchase Shop Winchester gift certificates at the
Winchester Savings Bank or Winchester Cooperative Bank for that next special occasion!! They can be redeemed at most of the shops
downtown. Please talk to your friends and neighbors - we need your
support. Cathy Alexander
