Waiting at the End of the Road
...a new journey is beginning

Journey to the Holy Land May 22nd through May 31st
Dear Friend, Thursday, May 21, 2009
We've reached the end of our 40-day HARVEST journey that we began on Resurrection Sunday. We've spent the past 40 days walking with our Lord as He taught His disciples leading up the day of His Ascension (today!). On this day the Lord walked up the road of the Mount of Olives one last time with His disciples (reference Luke 24:50). He had already instructed His followers to wait in Jerusalem until they received the gift the Father had promised: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift My Father promised, which you have heard Me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit" (Acts 1:4b-5); and then, just before He ascended to the right hand of the Father, Jesus blessed and commissioned them (reference Matthew 28:18-20).,
Jesus had brought His disciples back to the very place it all began, comforting them with the knowledge that He would return again soon and would establish His Kingdom forever. For now, His disciples would be entrusted with carrying His message to the world. The path before them would be paved with difficulty, just as the road to Jerusalem has been paved with many obstacles and trials throughout history. The enemy of God has tried repeatedly to thwart the plans of God, but has been unsuccessful in his attempt to stop the Savior from arriving in Jerusalem and accomplishing His purposes of bringing Salvation to the world. The Lord was victorious as the Lamb and He will return a second time, as a conquering King, to bring an end to the enemy once and for all. The enemy knows his time is running out and is working overtime to try to stop the Kingdom clock from ticking. As we watch the events unfolding around the world, in particular, surrounding this tiny little strip of land called Israel, we can't help but wonder what is about to be birthed (reference Matthew 24).
During the 40 days of our "HARVEST the Kingdom of God" journey the Lord revealed the specific details of a new journey that will focus on His beloved nation of Israel. We have been faithful with what He has given us so far and now we are being rewarded with more. "Well done, good and faithful servant you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities" (Luke 19:17). The Lord has called us to several season of fasting in the past year in preparation for what is about to unfold next. Each time we are obedient He opens the door to greater opportunities and the next couple of weeks are critical calls to action as we turn our hearts and prayers to the nation of Israel.
We have been entrusted with 10 days of fasting and prayer during our next journey: Journey to the Holy Land - May 22nd through May 31st. For those of you willing to answer the call we are being asked to follow the course of Daniel and his three friends who requested to abstain from the choice foods of the king to live on vegetables and water for ten days. "Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink" (Daniel 1:12).
Our pilgrimage journey to the Holy Land these next ten days will take us to the land that has been the Lord's great testing ground of faith. As we near the time of His return our reserve will be tested even more. "Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life" (Revelation 2:10).
If you cannot commit to fasting for these 10 days, please join us for the journey and remain in prayer for God's chosen nation. Our journey will take us through the land of Israel and will lead us to Jerusalem. Once we reach our destination, we will be asked to remain in focused and fervent prayer for another ten days (June 1st through 10th). Please sign up to participate in our prayer focus for those ten days by clicking on the "Praying for Israel: Call to Action" button (You will receive a daily email devotional beginning June 1st to guide you in praying for the peace of Jerusalem).
To begin your journey, simply click on the Journey to the Holy Land button located in the top right corner of the Trumpet and Torch ministry website (www.trumpetandtorch.org). Once there, click on the Introduction and then click on "Day 1" - each day will begin with a page of photos (from my personal journey to the Holy Land in June 2008), after viewing the photos and getting a feel for the places we are visiting that day, click on the "shofar" on that page and read "Today's Devotional" (be sure to take one day at a time - our journey is meant to last a full 10 days). Begin and end each day of your journey in prayer. Whether you have been to the Holy Land many times before or have not yet had the opportunity to walk in this extraordinary land, I pray this journey will bless you, giving you a heart for God's chosen nation, and move you to pray for the people and the land that has given us so much to be thankful for (reference Luke 2:32; John 4:22). "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: 'May those who love you be secure" (Psalm 122:6).

"I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem;
they will never be silent day or night.
You who call on the LORD,
give yourselves no rest,
and give Him no rest till He establishes Jerusalem
and makes her the praise of the earth."
(Isaiah 62:6-7)
