LEARNING TO EAT

"For, as I have often told you before and now say again
even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.
Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach,
and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things. But our citizenship is in Heaven.
And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who, by the power that enables Him to bring everything
under His control, will transform our lowly bodies
so that they will be like His glorious body."
- Philippians 3:18-21
Greetings!

Blessings to you as you begin your first day of feasting upon the Word of God!

As you are digesting your Day 1 breakfast, we at Trumpet and Torch are praising God for your obedience and faithfulness to His call, and we are praying that His Divine sustenance will nourish you as you begin your day.

Often (almost always!), the enemy will begin his attacks as you choose to fast from earthly concerns. He is not happy with your decision to forsake the things of this world in order to seek the eternal things of Christ. So, when (sorry, but it's a "when" and not an "if"!), the enemy approaches, press into the Lord, for He will protect and sustain you.

On the first day of my first 40-day fast, which I began a little over a year ago, the enemy attacked me before I even got out of the bed. There I was, curled up with my Bible and EAT, and he was attempting to distract me with petty squabbles in the house. (My husband and daughter were making cinnamon buns for their breakfast and were arguing about how to make them! Each was coming to me complaining about the other!)

I prayed and clung to the Lord, questioning why I had even committed to fast. I was hopeful and expectant for my journey, but, the enemy kept polluting my anticipation with doubts and fears. "What if God doesn't meet me?" I thought. "What if I do this, what if I go to this place, and He's not there? What if I'm just wasting away in a desert--hungry, thirsty, and tired--for nothing!"

I prayed through my attacks, and the Lord graciously led me to the 10th chapter of Hebrews:

"So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised.
For in just a very little while, 'He Who is coming will come
and will not delay. But My righteous one will live by faith.
And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him.'
But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed,
but of those who believe and are saved."
-Hebrews 10:35-39

So, by the grace of God, I made it through Day 1 breakfast! And not only did God meet me, but my Lord was already there. I was the one who had been standing Him up all this time. He was there all along, waiting for me! And, my friend, He is waiting for you, too.

"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock.
If anyone hears My voice and opens the door,
I will come in and eat with him,
and he with Me."
-Revelation 3:20

If you're feeling tired, hungry, or sick, do not give up! Pray through it; press into the Lord. He will nourish you; He will sustain you; He will set you free!

"The One Who calls you is faithful and He will do it."
- 1 Thessalonians 5:24

Our prayers are with you, on this first day and on every day, as you step out in faith for this journey of a lifetime.

Love, Grace, and Peace in Christ,
