WHO WILL SOUND THE TRUMPET?

"Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast,
call a sacred assembly.
Gather the people, consecrate the assembly;...
Let the bridegroom leave his room and the bride her chamber.
Let the priests, who minister before the Lord,
weep between the temple porch and the altar."
- Joel 2: 15-17a

Greetings!

I am writing this to you with a humble and heavy heart. "Oh, the agony of my heart!  My heart pounds within me, I cannot keep silent.  For I have heard the sound of the trumpet; I have heard the battle cry" (Jeremiah 4:19).

In Matthew 14 the Lord replied to His disciples, "They do not need to go away.  You give them something to eat."  His faithful followers, who had been His closest companions and had heard the Word of the Lord time and time again, were well aware of the need of the people, but they did not have eyes to see the answer that was right in front of them.

Jesus answered them by simply saying, "Bring them here to me."  When we place what little we have into the hands of our Lord He does nothing less than astound us with His power and His provision. For many of us we just don't see what has been given to us when, in fact, we've had it in our hands all along.

We are standing at a spiritual crossroads in our country and the great divide is Truth.  For over 70 years now we have been feeding on a lie that this nation is not a Christian nation, that it was not founded on Biblical principles, and that the Church needs to keep its mouth shut when it comes to matters of public policy.  Entire generations have been raised to believe in a history that was rewritten to purposefully remove all evidence of God and His providential hand in establishing this great nation.  The subtle influence of these lies has begun to seep into the Church and we have begun to compromise the Truth.

The Word of God is our guide and it is Truth and if we are to learn anything from our history we must heed the warnings the Lord gave to His people Israel. They were called to love the Lord with all their hearts and they were told to obey His commands and to teach them to their children.  Only when they were walking in Truth and obeying their Father did they receive peace, achieve victory, and experience safety.  When they chose to walk in another way they were given over to the hands of the enemy for discipline and correction.

Over 200 years ago this nation was established because a group of faithful men, many of whom held seminary degrees and who loved the Lord, believed the Word of God to be their guiding force and their only source of power against an evil tyrrant.  That tyrrant is still wielding his ugly head and he will give no rest until the true Head of this nation has been removed.

The good news is that "no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 3:11).  The cracked and bulging walls of oppression and deception must come down.  This will be accomplished if we are willing, as a nation of believers, to return to the Word of God and submit to Him in full dependence.

The Scriptures tell us, "He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure" (Isaiah 33:6).  The key to unlock the door of heaven and to flood this land with His mercy and grace is to return to the Lord with all our hearts and to return to His Word.  It is the missing and vital component of our lives, our Church, and our nation.

The Lord is stirring the Church to awaken.  Many believers are crying out to the Lord to show His hand of mercy.  But our hearts are far from Him.  We have pitched our tents and become complacent and lazy in a world that is not our home.  We are weak and weary and in need of refreshing.  We have much to repent of and the only way back is to the beginning: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1).

The Scriptures tell us that before the Lord returns He will send the prophet Elijah to prepare His people. "He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts fo the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse" (Malachi 4:6).  As Pastor's and God's chosen instrument to "give them their food at the proper time" you have been given a noble calling to return this nation to the foundation it was built upon.  You hold the very hearts of the people in your hands and the Lord is calling the hearts of His people back to Him.  May you be strengthened through His Word and clothed in His power to accomplish the task that is before you.

"Return faithless people," declares the Lord, "for I am your husband...
I will give you shepherds after your own heart,
who will lead you with knowledge and understanding"
(Jeremiah 3:14-15).

Register at no cost at www.trumpetandtorch.org and sit at the table of the Lord for three meals a day - dining on the Word of God - and spending time with your First Love.  Grow to develop a deep, abiding intimacy with your Lord over a 40 day period of consecration and allow Him to separate those things out of your life that are keeping you from making Him your utmost priority.  May this year be the year that the name of Jesus Christ is glorified, honor, and revered in your life and in the life of the Church.  May the Body of Christ be strengthened through a daily diet of His Holy Word, may we repent of seeking anything that falls short of His glory, and may we grow up into the Head that is
Christ Jesus.
