ASPERMONT MAKE VERTICAL SEARCH
A STRATEGIC PRIORITY
"success of first vertical property
accelerates strategy"

Aspermont, Australia's leading print and Internet publisher to the mining, oil & gas and related sectors has finalised an aggressive program to build and deploy additional vertical search capability across Aspermont's entire portfolio. Following the success of the Supply Chain Logistics vertical application, co-developed with Convera and launched in 2007, Aspermont has made a strategic decision to use Convera for all of its vertical search requirements. The next phase will incorporate Mining, Construction and Petroleum, to be followed by additional "smaller" verticals.

According to Alex Kent Online Search Manager at Aspermont, "We see vertical search as an ideal way to extend our brands online and provide a more comprehensive service to our communities. Partnering with Convera has enabled us to accelerate our online strategy."

VERTICAL SEARCH - MARKET SIZE, SHARE AND FORECAST
"financial potential remains attractive"

On March 7th, Outsell Inc, the leading analyst and consultancy firm for the information and publishing sector, released an analysis of the market size, share and forecast for vertical search.

Click here for a free download of the report.

This report includes:

  • Outsell data on B2B vertical search market size and growth
  • Analysis of vertical search market dynamics
  • An overview of the vertical search market
  • Essential actions for publishers

According to Outsell, "Vertical search continues to deliver what big search engines miss, and the resulting financial potential remains attractive. Outsell estimates the total ad-supported B2B trade information vertical search market at $518 million in 2007. Our research shows that the user and advertiser needs addressed by vertical search services remain significantly underserved by Google, Yahoo!, Microsoft, and AOL. But many B2B trade publishers and information providers that have launched vertical search services have been slow to do what's necessary to use vertical search as a springboard to seed a fast-growing virtuous circle".

PUBLISHER SELF-SERVICE CAPABILITIES EXTENDED
"rapid deployments now possible"

Convera have released of a new version of its Publisher Control Panel, an easy to use self-service application that enables editorial, audience development and sales teams of trade publishers to better serve the content information needs of their online communities and the targeted search advertising needs of their advertisers.

Through Convera's Publisher Control Panel (PCP) publishers can easily set up and administer integrated site and best-of-Web search, aggregating their public and proprietary content with the best of the public Web under their own brands. The new release of the PCP includes the following service enhancements:

  • Control of all processes from a single page of the PCP
  • Targeted advertising packages with banner, category and keyword sponsorships, as well as enhanced directory listings
  • Customized ranking, enabling the editor to closely control and customize search results
  • New content analytics tools
  • Enhanced search analytics tools
  • Enhanced online help and training facilities for editors and advertising sales teams

"Our editorial staff needs complete flexibility and control to create a relevant user experience for the information needs of institutional investors," said Nick Ferris, a Publisher at Institutional Investor who has been using the new version. "The new PCP allows us to customize categories, ranking schemes and search results presentation. It also enables us to dynamically customize and update suggested links, popular searches."

Also using the new PCP is Diane Burley, Publisher of Pure Contemporary. "We have dramatically reduced the turnaround time to customize our vertical search site," said Burley. "Convera's PCP enables us to create and publish new site configurations and downloadable search boxes in completely self-service mode."
