Fresh Snow Blankets Red River
Red River has received a generous amount of early-season snow this year, getting visitors and residents super excited about the upcoming winter season. A big storm blew across northern New Mexico Monday night resulting in 16" - 18" on the mountain and just under 14" in town. This brings our snow total for the season to 38" already, with ski area officials reporting a 24" base with two more weeks before opening day.
"We began making snow last week and have been able to get a substantial amount of terrain covered early," says ski area Public Relations and Marketing Director Lauren Judycki House. "That also helps keep the natural snow we've received in good condition by creating a wide-spread and solid base. This should make for a great opening weekend." The Red River Ski Area staff is hard at work with last minute preparations before the ski area opens on November 23rd. Construction is under way at the Main Chalet to make it easier for skiers and snowboarders to get lift tickets, pick up their rentals, and get signed up for lessons. Look for photos of the new skier services area on the ski area Facebook page in upcoming weeks!
Also enjoying some great early snow is the Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski & Snowshoe Area. Officials there are reporting close to 40" received already this season (close to 20" of that this week) and are hoping to open November 19th (but it could be sooner if all goes well).
