Fire Restrictions

Due to extremely dry conditions Red River, the Upper Valley & Taos County, and the surrounding Carson National Forest

Fire Restrictions

are currently under fire restrictions. What does that mean for your upcoming vacation? A few minor concessions but nothing we're sure you won't be able to live with. After all, we're still experiencing afternoon temps in the upper-70's and the brief showers we've had the past few days have kept everything cool and pleasant.

Read more about the restrictions at RedRiver.org/Restrictions.

The Red River Chamber of Commerce has put together a list of alternate locations for ATVs and Jeeps, along with hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Fishing is still available in town at our stocked ponds and on the north side of the river, and the scenic summer chair lift and summer mountain tubing are running daily as scheduled at the ski area. The Red River businesses are going above and beyond to make sure that you still have plenty to do while you're here. Want to find out more about all of the things you can do this summer? Call the Red River Visitor Center at (877) 754-1708 or go to RedRiver.org!

Be Bear Aware

Have you ever heard the expression "a fed bear is a dead bear?" The New Mexico Game & Fish Department has a policy to relocate bears twice when they've been caught foraging in trash cans or near homes. Bears caught a third time, or bears that exhibit aggressive behavior, are euthanized.

Not only is it illegal to feed a bear, once bears have become accustomed to eating human food or trash they become a nuisance and can become aggressive. By leaving out your garbage and bird feeders, or by baiting bears with food or trash, you are opening the door for that bear to be trapped and killed.

Find out more about bear awareness by watching this quick video and visiting RedRiver.org/BearAware.
