What's New at the Enchanted Forest?
Just Desserts

With new monthly activities and great special events, the Enchanted Forest is as busy as ever making sure there is plenty to do for cross country ski and snowshoe enthusiasts. Never tried one of these increasingly popular sports? A trip to Red River might be all the reason you need!
The Enchanted Forest is now offering beginner snowshoe tours every Friday through Sunday, along with moonlight ski & snowshoe tours and  headlamp cookout tours once a month. On February 26th they'll once again host their annual "gorge fest," better known as Just Desserts, where participants ski or snowshoe from dessert to dessert on a 5km course. If that's not reason to get out and try cross country skiing or snowshoeing, we don't know what is!

Glorious Conditions
Red River was blessed with two really
terrific snow storms last Skiing in Red Riverweek, resulting in over 21" of fresh powder at the Red River Ski Area. Albuquerque meteorologist Steve Stucker declared this past weekend "Ski New Mexico" Days, and said "If you're looking for a better weekend than this one to get out there and ski or snowboard, I can't promise you that it will happen." The Red River Ski Area has a 40" - 45" base, all seven chairs are running, and they're 93% open. The Enchanted Forest is 100% open with a 15" - 20" base. Come ski and ride in New Mexico sun!

Annual events include a children's ball, day parade down Main Street, bead tosses at the ski area, drink making contest, a grand costume ball, kids costume contest, Cajun cook-off, burning of the wild Tchoupitoulas, crawfish boils, downhill gator race, and more!

This year's theme is "Solid Gold Mardi Gras" so get ready to be dazzled. Count on Red River's rowdy krewes and festive residents to take you on a journey you'll never forget!

Bring Your Costume!

One ofRed River_Grand Ball the most beloved things about Mardi Gras is the costumes, and once again the Red River Chamber of Commerce is encouraging you  to join in the fun! Wear your Mardi Gras costume to each of the costume balls for a chance to be named the King or Queen of that particular ball, and again Saturday night at the GRAND BALL to compete for a $100 Chamber of Commerce gift certificate (separate categories for men & women)! The costume contest has a special category for children too, so make sure everyone in the family finds something fun to wear for Mardi Gras in the Mountains!

Thanks for cheering!

From the bottom of our hearts we'd like to thank you for cheering for Red River in the recent Reader's Digest "Best Towns in America Poll." While we didn't make it into the top ten and  probably are not eligible for any funding, we did receive over 106,000 votes and ended up in 28th place (highest rank in New Mexico). Not bad for a town of just over 400 people! We couldn't have done it without our friends and family. Thank you so much!
