Free Family Fun!

Community House Boat Building
A few years ago the Red River Community House came back to life with a long list of FREE family-friendly activities for young and old. This summer they're at it again with something for everyone seven days a week.  Returning this year are the guided hikes, boat building and racing, line and square dancing, Hysterical History Tours, Music in the Mountains, Movies on the Lawn, aerobics, "What to See and Do in Red River" speaker series, CHILL! young adult and teenager night, bridge, s'mores & storytelling, and weekly church services.

What's new this year?
The Smithsonian's "Museum on Main Street" program has come to the Community House with a fantastic exhibit called "New Harmonies: A History of America Through Music" which will be on display through
July 31st.

The Community House has also added expanded musical programs like the New Mexico Mass Choir on July 10th.

New Activities at the Red River Ski Area  Summer Tubing
The Red River Ski Area is thrilled to announce two new things for you to enjoy during your summer vacation in Red River: summer tubing and disc golf! Summer tubing is a new twist on one of your favorite activities during the winter. Two tracks have been set up on the Baby Blue Hill (next to the Main Chalet) for you to slide down on an inner-tube provided by the ski area staff. The cost is $10/hour for unlimited runs and children must be 4 years old to ride. Hours are Monday - Sunday, 10 am - 7 pm (last tube goes out at 6 pm). Want to know more about how summer tubing works? Check out this video.

Also new at the ski area this summer is disc golf. Ride the new Platinum Chairlift up to the 9-hole disc golf course located on the top of the mountain. Discs are available to rent or purchase in the new Pro Shop, located at the Tip Restaurant (as you exit the chairlift). Playing the course is free, and the price to ride the chairlift is $10-$14.  Hours for the course are 9 am - 4:30 pm during the week and 9 am - 5:30 pm on the weekends. The course takes about 2 hours to play so give yourself plenty of time to enjoy your game and get back on the chairlift for the ride down.  Check out the disc golf course layout here.
ATV's in Red River
Update on ATV / OHV Permits

Each summer, thousands of visitors head to Red River to take advantage of cool temperatures and beautiful scenery.  For the adventurous types, ATV's or OHV's (Off-Highway Vehicles) can be an exciting way to explore the hundreds of miles of trails surrounding Red River.

The state of New Mexico requires a day use permit for all ATV's/OHV's.  You can purchase your permit in advance at any of these locations, or you can order it online and print it out before you come (recommended).  You will need to create a new account, then you are given the option to purchase your ATV permit. IMPORTANT: Add all of your vehicles to the permit application before you click "review application." This will save you the $4.95 processing fee for each of your vehicles.  Once you have completed the online purchase you will receive an email confirmation.  Print out your confirmation, which will serve as your temporary permit. The Chamber of Commerce has put together an instruction sheet to help you get your permit online.

For more information on how to obtain your permit and New Mexico's safety rules click here.  For information on permit enforcement click here.

Gone Fishin'
Countless memories have been made at Red River's many public and private ponds and lakes (not to mention the Red River itself).  Most of these memories can be credited to fish-stocking programs funded by the Town of Red River, the Red River Chamber of Commerce, and the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish.  The combined effort provides $28,000 into stocking the Red River and the community ponds with roughly 7,000 pounds of rainbow trout, twice weekly mid-May through late-September.

New Mexico fishing licenses are available at multiple locations around town, along with everything else you'll need to enjoy your time on the water.  Never been fishing?  Consider scheduling some time with one of Red River's fantastic fly-fishing guides.  More information on fishing is available at the Red River Visitor's Center or online at www.RedRiver.org.
