$10,000 Fishing Derby
Join us in Red River May 7th and 8th for the 2nd Annual Northern New Mexico Hunting & Fishing Conservation Expo, featuring a $10,000 Fishing Derby, demonstrations, exhibitors, retailers, outfitters, a wild game cook-off, and more!
Outfitters and retailers will join with wildlife conservation organizations and government agencies to provide information on what the Red River area has to offer to outdoor enthusiasts. The weekend will be filled with excitement as various contests and raffles take place at the Red River Conference Center, along with a wild game cook-off with cash prizes and a $10,000 fishing derby. Being raffled off during the weekend are a hunting trip from the Rio Costilla Livestock Association and a 30-06 rifle from the Red River Chamber of Commerce.
The question on everyone's mind is "How do I catch the $10,000 fish?" On
Saturday, May 8th from 10 am - 4 pm 250 anglers will be given the
opportunity to fish for 60 tagged trout spread out between four ponds
in Red River. Each tagged fish will be worth cash or a prize, with one
tagged fish given the chance at $10,000. Tickets for
the $10,000 Fishing Derby are $10 each and are on sale now at the Red River Chamber (one ticket per person). All anglers must have a New Mexico
fishing license (which you can get here).
Each participant is limited to five tagged fish, so bring your whole
family! Get your ticket(s) by calling the Red River Chamber of Commerce
at (800) 348-6444 x. 1. Good luck!

"River & Brews" Blues Fest Red River and music go together like blue skies and skiing, so it seemed like a natural fit when the Red River Chamber of Commerce decided to put together a blues festival. Last year roughly 400 people came out for the inaugural "River & Brews" Blues Fest, which celebrates blues music from all over the southwest paired with delicious microbrewed beer and finger-lickin' good BBQ (along with other tasty treats). Now in it's second year, "River & Brews" has gathered quite a following as word starts to spread about the featured entertainment. Musicians from Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado will meet in Red River for an all-day outdoor festival at the base of the new chair lift and Lift House Bar & Grill. The event kicks off Friday night with a jam session at the Bull o' the Woods Saloon and is followed by live music all over town. Saturday's line up features Young Austin & No Difference (Colorado Springs), Dusty Low (El Paso), Big Jim Adam & John Stilwagen (Colorado), Albuquerque Blues Connection (Albuquerque), and George Whitesell and his All Stars, featuring Jill Watkins (Colorado Springs). The music begins at 10:00 am and will continue until 7:00 pm. Tickets are only $10 and can be purchased in advance by calling the Red River Chamber of Commerce, (800) 348-6444.
