Red River knows how to celebrate Mardi Gras!
Daily parades with
colorful floats, krewes in costume tossing Mardi Gras beads, live Creole music, and spicy Cajun cooking. Laissez les bons temps rouler
(that's Cajun for "let the good times roll")!
Annual events include a children's ball, day parade down Main
Street, bead tosses at the ski area, drink making contest, a grand
costume ball, kids costume contest, Cajun cook-off, burning of the wild
Tchoupitoulas (yep, that's how you spell it), crawfish boils, downhill
gator race, and more! Red River is excited to welcome Al Berard, from Cecilia, Louisiana, as our featured musician at Mardi Gras in the Mountains - 2010!This year's theme is "Where in the World is Mardi Gras?" so get
ready for an international adventure. Count on Red River's rowdy krewes and festive residents to take you on a journey around the world!NEW THIS YEAR: To show appreciation for the bountiful snow Red River has received this winter and to ask for more great snow throughout the season, the Lift House Bar & Grill invites you to join in on a new, fun & lighthearted tradition at Mardi Gras in the Mountains... The Offering to the Black Mountain Snow God Immediately following the Torchlight Parade and Fireworks on Saturday join us for a bonfire to keep Red River in the good graces of the Black Mountain Snow God. Mardi Gras Q & A"This is my first trip to Mardi Gras in the Mountains. What can I expect to find?" - Anne, Borger - "We have been bringing our children to Mardi Gras for the past five years. We all get to enjoy the events during the day, and now that they're a little bit older my wife and I get to enjoy the bands and costume balls at night too. We hear there will be some night time events for teens this year which will be right up their alley." Don, Wichita Falls - "My husband and I have always enjoyed the music during Mardi Gras. From the authentic Cajun bands from Louisiana to the local guys that know everybody's favorite songs, there's no shortage of dancing this weekend!" Julie, Albuquerque - "Great food! Crawfish boils, Cajun cook-offs, gumbo... I can't get enough." Matt, Enid - "It is so fun to watch how the whole town gets into it. They have these crazy krewes that run through the restaurants throwing beads, and they each have their own costume balls every night. I wish my hometown were that fun!" Elise, Lawton - "Just a plain ol' good time. Ski all day, dance all night. That's why we come every year." - Bernard, Lafayette
