Letter from the CEO
Karlin 2011 Headshot
Greetings Friends,

I'm writing this note to you all from beautiful Kathmandu, Nepal, where I am learning lessons every day about leadership. In this issue of Momentum we're highlighting the idea of leaders at every level. As we all know, leadership is not just about the executive suite. When it comes down to it, we all need to take responsibility for the good of our organizations and our teams... and this issue celebrates those leaders who are taking charge no matter what their title.

Enjoy!

Leadership at Every Level: Sanjay Lal Kharel

In my adventures in Nepal I have had the wonderful privelege to experience some amazing organizations. One in particular is a healthcare organization with branches in Kathmandu and Pokhara called the Ayurveda Health Home, which is a German-Nepali joint venture run by three partners. Their organizational culture is palpable from the moment you phone in for an appointment and you are greeted by a friendly, helpful staff person who genuinely wants to help.

One of the most important things they have to teach us is how they develop leadership traits at every level - by instilling in each employee the importance of their organizational mission and goals, and giving each and every person individual responsibility for achieving those things.

They are very successful and since 2001 have provided top quality healthcare to people from all over the world who travel long distances just to go to their two clinics in Kathmandu and Pokhara, Nepal. To read the interview click here.

Systems Thinking is a powerful, multidimensional thinking skill set that can help leaders identify and remedy chronic, complex problems - by understanding not only the full extent of what the problem is, but why it is happening. Systems Thinking skills significantly improve leaders' ability to apply limited resources strategically for the best results. This two-day intensive workshop introduces three distinct phases of Systems Thinking: Understanding the System, Mapping the System, and Taking Action through Systems.
